Name and shame insurance cheats

Companies who sell insurance policies, with no intention of honouring their obligations, should be named and shamed.
I refer specifically to Endsleigh's rented property insurance.
They, or more accurately their hirelings, sent out their loss adjuster to view the damage caused to my flat, and he waxed lyrical about the fact that he had never seen anything like it, and that the higher valued quote for repair was much more accurate than the lower valued ones.
He then sent me a letter stating that the insurer, IGI, to whom Endsleigh had sneakily farmed out the business, did not cover damage caused by people living in the property, and that he was turning down my claim.
Amedeo Adjusting Limited, Baltic Chambers (maybe that was why he was looking for an excuse to get out of the office, as he complained of having a cold during our meeting!), Glasgow, could have pointed this out to me in advance, without involving me in an eighty mile round trip in order to show the adjuster the property, during my holidays, for what was an obvious set up, prior to getting the bad news.
Any other cases to report out there.

( Otherwise, why did you claim? If you claim for something that you know, or should know by reason of it being in the policy documents, is not covered, then you can blame only yourself. )0 -
The loss adjuster is there to cost the damage and make a report. He is not there to say whether you are getting paid or not. Once he makes that report, it is for the insurance company to decide if you have a claimable event.
In your case, it appears that the loss adjuster has given his report and in conjunction with your claim information, it appears that the policy excludes the cause of the damage and there is no claim to answer.
It appears that the insurer has instructed this company to do a job. The loss adjuster has done it and the insurance company has acted within the policy rules. Now, if there is something that you disagree with, then that is a different matter but on what you have typed so far, i can not see any problem.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). I can't see anything in the Endsleigh policy online that indicates cover does not include people living in the property. It may be that it says it in the policy documents but looking at the one on the web, it is easy to fall into a trap of thinking you are covered.
The OP needs to go through their policy documents in minute detail as vandalism/malicious damage is covered and as this is specifically a rented property insurance it should be clearer if this does not cover damage by tenants.
In relation to the policy being "sneakily farmed out" to IGI, it is quite clear on the website and no doubt in the policy documents that that will be the case. They "farm out" to IGI and Zurich.0 -
Hi,
Thanks for the support, Bossyboots. There was no mention of the IGI link at the time of purchase, in Endsleigh's Edinburgh office, nor in any of the documentation, and I am now having to deal with a different policy number (IGI's), from the one I took out. Following my initial claim by phone, I was told by Endsleigh, that they are unhappy with the way IGI are insisting on handling any claims direct, and that this will be rectified within the next year.
dunstonh. You MMMSM, old chap. I have noted your propensity for jumping to conclusions in previous posts, as I have done here in gender and age analysis.
The loss adjuster made the decision to refute my claim, without approaching IGI. I contacted him yesterday, and to allay Stonk's concerns, pointed out, that I had already informed him, that some of the damage was caused by flooding from a washing machine, and that most of the rest was caused by a party not officially resident in my property. He did an immediate U-turn, and said, that I did have a case after all, and that he would get back to me with the result. I am now speaking to Endsleigh's Customer Services, and have been told, that an offer of compensation will most likely be forthcoming, but I don't want this, as much as a fair and HONEST settling of my claim.
I will fight my own battle, and hopefully win, but I am much more concerned for those unable to put up a decent struggle, and that is why I would like someone officially associated with MSE, to take note, and get the message over, that we are being preyed on by the sellers of imponderables. Is there such a Guru out there in the Ether?

Steady on please.
In the spirit of MSE, these people have taken the time to read, consider and reply to your post-just because it not what you want to hear doesn't warrant a reply like this. (IMHO)
The real strength of MSE is it's community and the way people help others with issues they have. Presumably the person who you refer to as "officially associated with MSE" is Martin, who will possibly have read your post and just like us taken the time to reply if he felt it approppriate.I am a fee charging WoM Mortgage broker.I now no longer give information and opinion within the Mortgage boards, because a number of posters who, having approached me professionally, agreed my fee-which has been been made very clear at the outset, taken my advice (normally cancelling a [home visit] meeting at short notice) have then approached one of the fee-free brokers on here to arrange the very same deal I have advised.Whilst I totally concur with the ethos of "money saving"- abusing the goodwill of a professional who provides a quality service is taking it too far! :mad:0
