internal doors + plastering quote

Options
Hi all,

Ive just had a quote for the following which i think is wayyyy to much and think he is over pricing the job as he isnt too interested....

£540 + vat for 4 new internal doors and 2 new door linings (supply and fitted)

£750+vat for dot+dab walls and ceiling plus skimming of the room.. room is roughly 5ftx8ft, possibly little smaller, really is a box room.

carpenter/builder to supply all materials except for door furniture

Thats over £1550 for doors and plastering, i guess materials are around £250ish (cheap bog standard £20 doors)

so around £1300 for 2-3 days work!!!!!

I'm in the wrong line of work.............anyone know any joiners to fit me some internal doors ?

I think you may be correct as it does seem a bit on the high side, but like Ormus says, I don't know what the going rate in your area is. I will make one observation:

£20 doors would almost certainly be from a "shed" (i.e. DIY retail outlet store) and will warp inside a week.(if they aren't warped already). All the joiners I know and the ones I talk to on the net wouldn't touch them. They pay more like £50-£60 for decent ones from timber merchants.

  • thanks, so i would be better off paying £50 or so for a solid wooden door?

I have just had new internal doors put on near to you (Chertsey) £45 labour per door, plus cost of door of course, ironmongery, handles etc.
No idea on the plastering sorry.
Can give you the carpenter's number if you like though, sure he'd come and look. He does some other things as well I think. PM me.

Cant comment on your doors, but as for the plastering, you should be looking at £550 tops.
