Flat & matted carpet after 6 months!!!

I purchased a new bedroom carpet in May. It was not cheap by my standards, a luxurious cream shag pile for the bedroom! After a few months it had already started to flatten and matt and hoovering did not bring it back. As I was quite poorly being pregnant I didn't get round to contacting the shop till beginning of December to advise of the problem. They sent someone out the same day and he agreed it was quite flat but you should expect that with a long pile carpet. He agreed to advise manufacturers who then sent out an independent company to look at the carpet at the beginning of Jan. I have just received a letter from the carpet shop advising the manufacturers found that the carpet had started to flatten and matt in the main traffic areas but this is not due to a fault and they have offered a free carpet rake as a gesture of goodwill!! I haven't replied to them yet as I am too angry. I expect a carpet to last longer than this. We may be selling soon and anyone looking at the house will think the carpet is old and needs replacing. Can anyone offer any advice on where I stand or what I should do next?? Any help would be appreciated.

I could be wrong, but doesn't shag-pile carpet require daily raking to keep the pile up? It makes sense that if you walk on it it will flatten. A free rake sounds like a reasonable gesture, and will probably do the trick.0 -

Not sure what carpet was made of, will have to check receipt but did ask when we purchased it if any special care was needed and were told none. If I had been told I'd have to rake my carpet I'd have thought twice about it. I am aware that a long pile carpet will flatten over time but to look at it you'd think it had been laid 10 years ago!!0 -
I always thought a nylon carpet like this would flatten and be poorer quality. I would definitely know the difference between wool and nylon though.,just by looking.I guess if you can clearly see the foam or hessian when you flatten it with your hand, its not dense enough pile.0
