Both myself & my girlfriend have houses to sell so we can buy a bigger place. Does anyone know whether or not we would be able to save money by letting the same solicitor handle both sales for us? Lets face it, for what they do it is money for old rope anyway!

It is always worth asking but don't hold your breath.
The work involved in two separate sales is two completely different sets of work. It is not even as if it is one person selling two properties where duplication of information would slightly reduce the work.0 -
Thanks for the replies. I suppose at the end of the day I can only try & haggle the prices down with the solicitor for bringing the business their way. After all if you dont ask you don't get.0

If you really want to save money on selling, forget the legal fees, these pale into insignificance compared with the agents fees you will face - a far better area to concentrate on.
Sell yourself using an online property website and you will be looking at several thousand pounds saving, not just a few hundred potentially on the legals.
Remember, estate agents do no legal work, they only advertise the property and you can now do all this easily yourself using a good online property service at a cost of £100-£150 per property with no commission. Try searching Google UK for "sell house" or "sell my house" for some of the leading national contenders.0 -

I don't think that you appreciate the work involved for the lawyers compared to the work undertaken by the other professional acting for you receiving considerably more consideration.

In my current house sale (yawn) and purchase, the solicitor has been the only one who has been able to tell me the truth of what has been going on. The seller turned out to be lying to us, the EA gives Foxton's a good name. My solicitor may not have been able to save my house chain but he saved my sanity!I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
