difficulty with seller and multiple items won

Hi.
i won three items from one seller. on each description it states that they will combine postage. they sent me an invoice for the total with no reduction.
i emailed them asking to resend it with the amended postage costs and this is what i got as a reply:
Hi,
what I usually do is find out how much the postage was and take something off the postage cost after posting via paypal. thanks.
Does this make any sense to anyone?
I have emailed them saying that i want to know how much it is now and pay the amount plus the reduced postage costs.

Are they a newbie? It sounds to me like they're making the classic mistake (I did it too!) where they click 'recalculate' when they do the combined invoice.
This resets the amounts and cancels out the discount they just gave you.
Explain that they seem to be doing something wrong, because there is no discount showing on the invoice. My TV is broken!

Ah I see... I've read your post properly now.
He's saying he'll refund you any excess appropriate after he posts the item and knows how much it costs to post.
I would find this acceptable, (if a bit unprofessional) but if it's awkward, you'll have to say so and see if he will amend the invoice in advance. My TV is broken!

i think what the seller is saying is pay without the discount and when they have posted it they will refund you as they are not sure what it will cost until they post it and dont want to discount to much incase they lose out on postage costs0
