I put a whole pheasant in the slow cooker this morning. When I put the liquid in, the pheasant kind of floated in the liquid (not completely, just a little). Due to this, it was impossible to cover the pheasant completely in liquid, which is what I know I was supposed to do. I'm now panicing it won't have cooked properly.
Will it be safe to eat do you think? It will have been in the slow cooker for at least 10 hours, which is longer than it recommends.

With all the steam created it will be fine. I cook my chicken in the SC with only an inch or 2 of water in the bottom.

It's interesting you say that you've cooked a whole chicken in a small amount of water. My instruction book states that the liquid must cover everything, but then it makes the gravy very watery (even if I use passata as well as water).
However, the book is obviously not giving me the full story, so next time, I'm going to put far less liquid in and get a better, thicky gravy out of it!0 -

I have the MR 6 litre one and it says that too but TBH it creates so much steam anyway and I really don't want to eat boiled chicken.With casseroles etc I tend to cover the meat and veg if possible.

I seem to remember my SC instruction book saying that all root vegetables should be completely covered by liquid...but i've found even spuds will cook in a little liquid because of the steam.weaving through the chaos...0
