Thanks for the info. I went for the Fujifilm FinePix A920 at just under £70 from tesco instead, had experience with the fujifilm before so I know it will do the job well enough for me.

We don't need to do it perfectly - good enough is exactly that GOOD ENOUGH.

Yes its crazy the megapixel race, its because most consumers think more is better, but they fail to undersatnd that mopre pixels on a tiny sensor can create worse pictures

They then wonder why their pictures take up x amount of MB on their computer and won't email to people because they are so large.

Oh, I don't know, people! They come in all different shapes and sizes and with their own weird and wonderful ideas. The sooner they're all made the same, the better. You'd think that in this day and age that people would come ready and fully programmed with all knowledge, wouldn't you?

The bottom line is you do not need anymore than about 3 megapixels unless you intend to print anything bigger than A4. As most people would never want to print anything near this size then all this mega megapixel that camera makers push is basically a load of rubbish.

It's a bit like a PC. Most of us only use it for basic Office type functions, email amd web browsing. A pretty basic piece of kit is more than adequate for that. You only need the super fast processor, expensive graphics and sound cards and oudles of memory if you are a serious gamer.

But, it suits the makers to push all this super douper kit else otherwise they would have no sales. So really it's all just hype and you are often better off with last year's/previous model from a well known maker at less cost than the new model from Mr Dodgy Brand but look how many bells and whisles I can give you with it.

Basxially if ou stick with the good brands , Canon, Casio, Nikon, Fuji you should be ok, stay away from the cheapo brands

This one gets good customer reviews

  • I have an old digital camera with a small lcd screen. In bright light the screen is useless and I always use the optical viewfinder. But nowadays most cameras don't have a viewfinder. Is this a problem? or are the screens so much better now?
