Personally (and this is based purely on my own experiences) I've found Technika products to be quite unreliable. Sometimes they just haven't worked at all.

The Technika products I've tried are:
3 way scart splitter - never worked
Ipod cassette adapter - didn't work in my car
wireless keyboard & mouse 100% failure rate (although one lasted about a year)
    USB hub - never worked.

But I've never tried one of their cameras. I'm just saying personally, I wouldn't take the risk.

Brilliant price if it works though!

  • They may be 10MP &/or 12MP but the quality of the lens is the most important factor.

I wouldn't buy one - I'd save a little more and get something like a Panasonic Lumix.
  • It's bizarre that the craze with digital cameras is to get more megapixels in when most people forget the key fundamental - crap optics = crap image.

If the lens is no good, having more pixels to record the image will just make any defficiency in the optics show up more. It's probably borderline OK if you need a camera now, if you want something better, look at one of the Nikon models at Morgan Computers....

I couldn't echo this sentiment more!

I really quite like digital cameras and it appears my bank manager likes my folly too!

I've owned all sorts of digital cameras, from a very expensive Jenoptics 1mp digi camera (in ooh about 1998) up to a Nikon dSLR.

In my experience, I would shy away from less known brands. I will say though, that I've had good experiences from Samsung and Fuji (obviously, the latter being a known but mid-to-lower-priced camera brand).

If you want to spend under £50, one of these from Argos will be 1000% better than a Technika. As it stands, there's one of these in Hemel Hempstead Marlowes for instance....

As oddfellow quite rightly says, don't look at megapixels. It's a bit like a car engine. a 5 litre engine may have the potential to get you there quicker, but if you're driving around town, you can't get there any quicker than the 1 litre micra. The speed limit is still 30mph.

I was reading a review of a camera the other day and they actually said that a 7 megapixel version of a particular camera was inferior to the 5mp! Obviously, it depends whether you're a serious photographer who prints on A3 paper (but then again, would you be using a sub £500 camera!)

Keep your eye out on HotUKDeals too .... there always seem to be hundreds of cheap cameras popping up on there!
The smaller the monkey the more it looks like it would kill you at the first given opportunity.

I have one of the Technika 10mp cameras. It's a cracking little device. No problems or complaints with or about it at all.

  • I've got a Samsung Digimax A6, 6 mega pixels. I've tried a few Digital cameras over the years but this is a truly amazing camera.
I've had it a couple of years now without any problems at all and the photo quality is out of this world (I'm always asked to bring my camera to family events).
So in my opinion, you'd be better off saving your money and buying a Samsung instead.
Between two evils, I always pick the one I never tried before
