To survey or not survey...

Hello guys.

Hope you can help. Just had a mortgage valuation survey done on the flat we're buying. Everything looks OK - there are no problems. The thing is, now we're wondering whether to get a 'proper survey' done (Homebuyer's probably). The property is around 40 years old (ex-local authority block) and is in good condition. The surveyor won't be able to see anything, right? He (or she) won't lift up any floorboards or carpets, and won't be able to get on to the roof (they'll need a ladder). So is it worth it?

    Seriously you're paying that much for something and you're not going to get someone to look it over first?

    You'll pay for the survey whether or not you get it done.

    well if you find a major problem afterward which wasn't spotted in a survey then you have some insurance.
