Computer case wiring

Have just got a new atx case and am confused with the case wiring hope somebody can throw some light on it please.
Have managed to connect the SW LEd and Hd led and Reset also the front usb sockets all of those quite straight forwrad. My problem is with the front audio connectors mic/headphones only have two sockets
Case wires are colour code written on cable connectors
RED return R
GREEN return L
WHITE mic in
BLACK GRND
BLUE speaker L
YELLOW speaker R
ORANGE mic bias
M/Board is a MSI K9n SLI and the front panel audio connectors are as follows
1 MIC_L 2 GND 3MIC_R 4 PRESENCE 5 LINEout_R 6 MIC_JD 7Front_JD
8 NC(no control) 9 LINEout_L 10 LINEout_JD
JD stands for jack detection
Thanks any help
Nick

  • your motherboard manual should say what/where the sound/usb connectors are and also what the individual pins on the connectors are. Probably will be marked on the mobo as well depending on how good your eyesight is (usually quite small writing)

They are usually on one long strip of pins near the bottom right of MB if the prosessor is in the top left. As the last poster said they should then be marked on the MB, or in the MB data sheet usually availible online if you do not have it.
The only way of finding the limits of the possible is by going beyond them into the impossible.

  • If you aren't sure about the connections don't use the front case sockets; use the rear motherboard ones
  • Blacksheep,
thanks for your reply know you have helped me out in the past.
My problem is that the front case audio cables do not match what I have in the manual for this m/b.
The only ones that I can see match are MIC IN and GRND although the m/b has MIC L and MIC R.
The others RETURN R and RETURN L I hope are speaker out
SPEAKER L and SPEAKER R again hope are speaker in.
No idea what MIC BIAS is for though
Any way will keep looking so thanks again.
