  • Thanks MaggieBear that makes alot of sense.
Yep my OD is the one thing that mentally I need to get rid of as quick as i can.
I dont know what to do about the TV licence at the moment as I may well be moving out very soon. If we got a year one i dont know if i could trust my housemate to buy it off me. I wont need one if i move to my parents house.

I was looking at various accounts and wondered if it would be good for me to go for the A&L one with 0% intrest OD? Would i be able to get it considering i have this managed loan?
If i moved banks would it affect my getting a loan for my boat in the next year or so?
Would i be better staying put?

Hi Maryjane, if I were you I would apply for the A&L account as long as you have been in credit for 2 days of the previous month. If you are permanently in your overdraft then they won't match your overdraft with a 0% one. You have to use their switching service in order to get them to match your overdraft, so just get them to transfer your salary and all direct debits and use this as your current account.

Apply for A&L by signing up to https://www.quidco.com and applying through there. This will give you £50 for free. Free money!

I would then get your current current (!) account provider to reduce your overdraft to 0 and then reduce your A&L account overdraft every month so the money isn't there waiting to be spent.

That's what I'd do anyway (and have done! Me and my boyfriend both have A&L accounts, although I don't actually use mine - I just opened it for the free £50...)

    xx

There are also easy ways to up your income. If you go to the main forums board there's a thread on ways to increase your income. Also, there's a challenge which I'm doing this month to make an average of £10 extra per day in Feb - lots of ideas in that thread too. Think the main thing though is to not spend money on little bits and pieces - use Martin's demotivator to see the damage!
  • Ah brilliant! TV licence without the worry! Thank you!

Kaz that sounds great! I was not in credit for two days this month as i had to pay the elctric and gas out of my account as my housemate hadnt been paid. But at least i know now for next month.

I have had a look at the increase your income board but there are so many!
I am ebay and Amazon bound tonight!
I also have some plans for making and selling kitchen items similar to Cath Kidston stuff. Ive sold a couple of things already just need to get a little cash together to buy raw materials and the energy to make the items!

Thanks again people. I think im well on my way now. I'll keep you all posted on how im doing!

That's excellent, and it really does sound like you're under steam :T

Selling stuff becomes totally addictive and there's less left to dust, too :D

    Keep us posted :)

Unfortunatly i have sold alot already. But hopefully if i can invest what i sell back into raw materials to make the new items it sell i should be well away.

Just spent all the small change in my wallet that i had (came to £6) on enough food for the rest of the week along with that i have in the cupboard. Got a couple of reduced bargains too.

Hopefully no more spending till Saturday now! (Just had to put that in writing to help me not spend!)
  • Could any one tell me if i move banks will it make it harder for me to get a loan in the future?
I have been with my present bank for 11 years and would like to take a large loan out either later this year or next year.
    Thanks guys!
  • Can anyone answer the question in the post above? I am going to see the bank later so i can ask them but it would be great to get your opinions.

hey :) ok i was in your situation. Do not get a managed Loan!

i have one and pay ridiculous interest. Instead set up a budget sheet for yourself each month and allocat 100-200 a month to pay the overdraft. the day you get paid every month call your bank and ask them to reduce the overdraft by 100-2000 or whatever you need. this will also show your bank you are managing your money. If you get a managed loan you can only get solo or electron cards.. its not worth doing, or paying the mamouth interest :)
