*&%$^£" ... Hsbc

I am so annoyed at HSBC this morning...

I have a Standing Order set up for payments to my mum (to pay off the debt i owe her). However we decided that I needed to pay off ones with interest first, which meant i called up and cancelled the SO over 2 weeks ago.

And guess what has just come out of my account... £500...

I phoned them up and they (funnily enough) have no record of me calling and they cant do anything about it.

At least its to my mum and she can transfer it back, but thats going to take around 4 days, which means i will need to go into my O/D for my travel to work this week...

I hate HSBC... when i pay off my debts I am changing banks...

  • HSBC are indeed rubbish! I phoned them up to reduce my overdraft - they decided it would be better to switch my account from a graduate account to a premier super duper cost me lots of money every month account!! How hard can it be to listen???!!!
So I switched to LLoyds - much better!

    I hate them too!!

I arranged a temp overdraft to help me out, I hardly used it and it's due to run out on 11th, but I asked them to extend it for a couple of weeks as got slight cash flow problem, they can't extend it but suggested I applied for a credit card or a loan  They offered for me to speak to someone to help but only after I'd applied and been declined for a loan!!! Grrrr

Grrr - thats annoying! Natwest did something similar to me funnily enough - we cancelled a s/o to my grandparents in order to make sure we could afford the rent for the month as we were really short, but lo and behold they still tried to take it! It was returned unpaid as we didnt have the funds in there (hence the reason for cancelling it for the month - doh!) and so they then charged me the £38 for a returned s/o! Never got it back as they were insistent it was OUR mistake and not theirs.

Lloyds are good. I used to have a debit account with them and they were fantastic. Our local bank manager was so lovely lol!! He was so sympathetic and would bend over backwards to help. Even now, I am in arrears on a loan and they are still so lovely and understanding on the telephone. Never hound me for money etc...big thumbs up to Lloyds!

  • I've stopped bothering to ring. No point, all the indian call centre workers are on scripts and the UK based ones arent much more helpful either. I'm lucky my hours are flexible so I can pop in, but I'll be closing my accounts as soon as I'm out of this hole.

    That is sooooo true!!

I really really dislike having ANY dealings with HSBC at all now.

Im seriously thinking of just getting a different account now but im not sure about my credit rating....

I have heard Lloyds are quite good, think I may have a look into it.

  • From my experience Lloyfds have been really good - closed my HSBC account for me, moved all my standing orders/direct debits over v v quickly. I got my new cards within 2 days of going in to open the account, and when a charge of £30 was put on my account mistakenly from transferring my overdraft over, they credited it back to me within 2 minutes of querying it. Excellent service!

Is it not possible to manage standing orders yourself via the online service?

Another HSBC hater here. For me the final straw came when I lost my wallet and called up to cancel it, usual indian call centre lady who seemed more concerned with flogging me insurance in case my cards had been fraudulently used (although it wouldnt have covered me in that case anyway, as the insurance would have been taken out after the event) than in actually cancelling cards. Fast forward 2 weeks, my new HSBC credit card has arrived, my debit card, that i actually wanted, had not. Gave them a call, and she hadn't ever cancelled it! They had records of me calling to cancel, and the other one being cancelled, but she hadn't completed the procedure to cancel the debit card.

Did eventually get £35 in compensation and luckily the train conductor had found my wallet and got it back to me, but i was so angry as i would have been responsible for anyone who had used that card when she hadn't cancelled it! I wish I could change banks, but I have a £1500 intrest free OD with HSBC, and I want to throw money at the debts with intrest on them first, so i just have to grimace and bear it.
