A few pounds per month - which developing world charity?
Options
I already donate (+gift aid) £20/month to World Vision. Looking at by budget, I'd like to be giving a bit more but to another charity.
Although there are many worthy causes, on a personal level I feel I should support charities that are working in the developing world. Grassroots projects rather then top down: education, development of cooperatives (esp run by women), provision of basic medical aid are all important. I'm not as enthused by disaster relief.
So, which charity to pick?
Suggestions would be welcome.

New Year's Resolution: Post less unnecessary posts. (and that was 2007)
yes, I realise I may appear cold and heartless a lot of the time.0 -
Two grassroots charities supported by MoneySavingExpert are:
Re-Cycle at www.re-cycle.org
Re~Cycle's mission is to collect secondhand bicycles and ship them Africa. We distribute bikes and teach riders the skills to repair and maintain them.
and
Tools for Self Reliance at www.tfsr.org
We provide refurbished handtools and sewing machines plus training to help people in Africa start or expand small businesses. I've been working for Tools for Self Reliance for nearly 10 years. You are welcome to email me or phone me if you have any questions.

I'm an active supporter of Practical Action at www.practicalaction.org . They undertake grassroots development work and have many projects specifically targeted at women. The charity works with people in the developing world helping them to access and use 'technology' to help improve their lives. Technology can be anything from a simple donkey plough to access to clean renewable energy to help bring electricity to schools, villages and medical centres, to helping women in the camps in Darfur, Sudan lead safer daily lives. Check the website. Hope it helps.0
