Contents insurance for a Flat Share??

Hi there, My partner and I live in a flat share with 4 others. Since being in England we have accumulated a fair bit...Laptops, ipods, digital cameras..and recently an engagement ring. We havent really bothered with insurance as up until recently our lives could easily fit into a backpack! :)

We have a lease with the landlord for the entire flat but everyone pays for their own room separately. I dont think anyone else in the flat wants to have insurance...is it possible to organise this just for ourselves? Are there any companies which deal with this sort of thing??

Also would you recommend taking out a separate policy for the ring. From what I've deduced from my fiancee the ring is worth over £3000. I'm terrified of losing it or if one of the stones fall out. Would any home/content policies insure for this amount on a single item??

Thanks in advance for your help
:)

    Hi Kim2007

    Things to do/consider:
    1. Can only suggest that you go to an independent professional insurance broker.
    2. Beforehand ask what the advice would cost etc.
    3. Take photos of valuable chattels
    4. Any chattels which are rarely in use leave with family members if possible or bank strong room.
    5. Mark all retained chattels with invisible ink , postcode etc
    6. Check door lock is a 5 lever and improve if not
    7. Photo copy important papers (passports etc)
    8. If papers rarely used leave with relatives or bank strong room
Hope this helps to reassure you

I am pretty sure almost any company will insure your goods but doubt any will cover you for theft by one of the flat mates or their guests, you need to ask and review T&Cs.
