The 5th Gen is the older model and was replaced by the Classic, there is a slight difference in the interface, the classic has better battery life and is slightly slimmer0

I have the 80gb classic. I can't fault it at all. Great battery life (better than the 30gb), slimmer than it, very good video playback, they've just upped the default max volume with a firmware upgrade.
My big question is... why? The 30gb is older and not as good. Unless you can get a fantastic bargain on one, there's no point at all0
