I received my annual energy assessment from Scottish Power yesterday, tellnig me I'm £380 in credit. Yippee! I think, so ring them to get a cheque sent through ASAP.
It turns out that the muppet they send to read the meters has been reading my gas meter, not my electricity meter!!! The billing went wrong in November but they've only just got around to sending out a bill. So now I owe them £250 & all they are prepared to offer me is £20 "goodwill discount". Ha!
I am so cross, but because I owe them money I can't vote with my feet & change suppliers til it's paid off. I've a good mind to offer them £5 a month as a maximum payment - let them wait for my money.

I also had problems with Scottish Power Manweb and I think my problems boiled down in the end to the metre readings. My annual estimate told me I needed to pay an extra £28 a month, £345 a year so I rang them up to find out why. When the chap put the number through the system again he calculated that we were paying the correct ammount and didnt need our DD altering!

Why not register with Scottish Power Online? You can then submit the readings yourself on a regular basis and a summary/bill is generated a couple of days later. Consumption can be monitored as well.
They do have to read the meter(s) themselves not sure of the frequency but about every 12 months.0
