Reclaiming of Monies from Mobile Phone Insurance

Hi There
Was wondering if anybody could help me out with this question
For the past 4-6 years, or so, I have had three Mobile Phone Insurance Premiums taken out of my Barclays Current Account by Direct Debit,
even though I have cancelled out my Monthly Contract with these two
Mobile Phone Providers - and no longer have the phones that I had
brought from them.
The two Mobile Phone Providers are:
1) Phones4U
2) Vodafone
When I cancelled these Mobile Phone Contracts with these two over the past 4-6 years, I thought that the Phone Insurance would be in turn cancelled along with the Old Contract(s) that I instructed them to do.... which I thought would be cancelled out from the Direct Debits with Barcalys etc.
I rang the Mobile Phone Insurance Provider for Phones4U, and said that I had found out that they had been taking £8 per month out of my Bank Account (by Direct Debit), over the past 4-6 years, for a Mobile Phone Contract that I no longer have with them.
I asked them if there was any chance that I could have my Money Back, and I was told that I should have cancelled the Direct Debit instructions with them from my Bank Account - and that IT WOULD NOT BE POSSIBLE to be reimbursed for the Money that had been taken out - over the past 4-6 years.
******************************************************
QUESTION 1) Does anyone know if I can reclaim this money from the Mobile Phone Insurance Provider - for Phones4U?
******************************************************
The other Mobile Phone Insurance Provider, for Vodafone, has done the same as the one from "Phones4U", and I will be giving them a call tomorrow, to see
if I can rightly claim my Money back from them to.
As I am knew to this Forum, I am hoping that I might receive a reply to
either here, or my email address - but I am unsure if a reply will get to my email address
HOPE SOMEONE CAN help me out with this question

I suspect the insurance add-on to your contract will be contracted out to a specialist insurance provider rather than the shop itself. Have a look on your policy for details. I would ask the shop why they didn't cancel the insurance policy when you cancelled the contract, but I suspect they will say they thought you would still want the phone covered and that they thought you had probably switched the phone to a different network.
I know you don't want to hear it, but it is your responsibility to cancel any insurance policies you take out they don't know when you get rid of your phone, plus you really should check your bank statments a little more regularly than every 4 - 6 years.
Good luck with getting the cash back

Hi Duncan,
I can imagine your really frustrated with this, I'd be quite annoyed myself.
If you had insurance through Vodafone directly when the contract was cancelled any add on i.e. insurance would have also been cancelled. With this in mind I can say that the insurance you've been charged for was not from Vodafone.
If you took your contract out via one of our registered dealers i.e. phones 4 u or Carphone Warehouse it’s likely the insurance is with them. Your bank should be able to tell you more information on who the direct debits were being paid to.
If you don’t have any joy in finding out who the 2nd lot of insurance was with I’d be happy to help you further. I would need to look at you account you had with Vodafone; if you'd like me to do this please contact me using the Vodafone contact us form here. If you include the code FIT135 in the body of the email it will direct it through to my team. Please fill in all the details the form asks for including your old mobile/account number.
I hope you get this sorted and hopefully you will get reimbursed for at least some of the money.
Hopefully Useful

If you purchased your phone contract from Phones 4u, you will need to speak to their insurance arm Policy Administration Services Limited. The phone number is 0870 900 6444.
Go through to Customer Services, and ask them to put you through to the Customer Relations Manager. Explain your situation and request a full refund. I've dealt with them before on a similar problem and I got great service. A little bit of persistance is well worth the trouble.
By the way, I hope you'll check your bank statements in future - a chore that noone likes to do, but it's necessary...

Hi,
i had a similar issue with phones 4 u insurance. I thought that mine was cancelled bk in april 2006 via phone call to insurance as thats wot phones 4 u said i was to do and also a follow up in writting as insurance told me to do that. Only last month i noticed eight pounds coming out of my accountant, checking for another refund and questioned the bank and was told its this insurance which i blocked there and then. I had to call insurance on 0870 900 6444 and ask for operations department which a maria on ext 8746 put me through to a juliet and after several days i could only be refunded eighty seven pounds for eleven months so lost out on eleven months even though they could see i had contacted them the man hadnt cancelled the policy. So now prove as there phone recordiongs dont go back that far.
