Student Oyster Card

Hi all,

Hope someone can answer my questions as i called the oyster people and they couldn't?!?!

Does anyone know what happens when your student oyster card expires? Since the only tickets it gives a discount for are for season tickets, what would happen if you bought a monthly ticket the day before it expires, woudl the discount apply to the whole month even though the student bit had expired?

Also has anyone got one and can confirm if its valid on trains inside the travelcard zones, i saw somewhere on the website that it was but then they said it wasnt, lol

Thanks!!

Travelcards are valid on all london buses and the zones stated. Also I am not sure on buying a day before it expires, it doesnt make sense, what if I bought a year discount travelcard, would it then last a whole year? I doubt TFL would allow it. When I tried to renew I was told that I could not get a new monthly because it expired within the month! But anyways after your student card expires you can continue to use it as a normal Adult rate oyster card...

The ticket expires when your card does - it *might* still let you on and off buses and tubes etc, but if you get caught by the inspectors, you can get hauled off to court (happened to someone in my year last term.

    From the Oyster website
Your Student-rate travel concession will expire on your course end date or 14 October 2008, whichever is the sooner.
When your Student-rate travel concession has expired, you can still use your 18+ Student Oyster photocard to pay as you go at adult-rate and buy and use adult-rate season tickets.

  • If you have a travelcard, you can use it on trains in those zones. I used to do it. And I found that I couldn't renew a monthly card if the discount was going to expire before the end of the month.
