Tesco cc took full balance in error!

I am really annoyed with Tescos cc, I recently set up a direct debit for them to take the minimum payment (this months being the 1st direct debit) only to find that they have taken the full amount of nearly £2000, which has taken me way over my overdraft limit and I will now be caught with bank charges from Lloyds tsb, I realised their error when we were out this afternoon ten pin bowling and my debit card was declined  twice, which I thought was odd as I knew it should be ok, when I got home I checked my account to find that they had taken the full amount, I phoned them only to be told that it was their error and they would put the money back into my account, but this would take upto 4 days!!!!!!!!!! they have agreed that they will pay any charges that I incurr, but in the mean time I will be unable to use my bank account until the balance is brought back down within my limit!

You can telephone your bank and ask them to claw back the direct debit..It will show on your account again far sooner. The bank then act on your behalf to get the money back from Tesco.
This happened to MOH just on top of christmas when we switched mortgage..both the old and new companys took a months mortgage, well after the exchange!...Not what you need christmas week is it!
I would ring your bank first thing tomorrow if I were you.
  • Thanks - I was planning on ringing first thing to hopefully sort something, its my sons birthday on wednesday and have ordered stuff online today which now I have had the orders cancelled as payment wont be authorised, its just a nightmare! I just hope the bank will be helpful! - fingers crossed!

It will be better (and certainly much quicker) to get Tesco's (RBS) to CHAPS the extra back tomorrow.

Then, when you've assessed the damage (in the form of charges/interest from your bank), let them know...by making an official complaint in writing.

You should also explain what's happened to your bank, ideally in branch (or by telephone contact with your branch so you have a named contact) in an attempt to stop them reporting the negative account conduct to the CRA's.
  • :j I've just got off the phone from the bank and explained the problem, spoke to a lovely lady who has put the money back into my account and so I will not incurr any charges! :T :T :T panic over! And sons birthday pressies are on the way - hopefully they'll get here on time!
  • Glad you got it sorted out!
...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.
  •        I am soooooooooooooo angry with Tescos now, after all the hassle with them taking the full balance instead of minimum payment, I've just checked my statement online, only to find that they have now charged me £12.00 for returned direct debit and another £12.00 for late payment - as after their !!!! up they haven't actually taken any payment this month now! I've been on the phone to them and they need to speak to my husband as he's main card holder, so that will have to wait until tonight, I've just written a stinking letter to them as I feel so very frustrated!!!!!
  • :T :j Just received letter fromTesco saying how very sorry they were for their clerical error and they have credited my account with £25 for all the inconvenience and if I have incurred any bank charges they will refund them as well! :D
