Using ink cartridges past expiry - safe?

Seen some great offers on ink cartridges - however they are past their expiry date - would that really be a big problem in terms of printer health?

if they are sealed in foil, it wont be a problem, it generally depends HOW out of date they are, the older the cartridge, the dryer the ink head can be.

Probably the only risk is to the health of your bank balance. I speak as one who was once bitten by this kind of offer, but is now twice shy.

Do make sure that you can get an unconditional refund or replacement if the cartridge doesn't work. Be prepared to have to coax old cartridges into life by immersing them in hot water and/or by physically shaking them. And be prepared to incur extra postage in returning failed cartridges for replacement.

All in all, you'd probably be better off buying a reconditioned cartridge from a local supplier, from whom you would be able to obtain replacement having complained face to face.

yh the dates for the cartridges are 2003 & 2002 - they are still mint in the box - never opened - should i buy them?

to be honest there are some great sites which offer cartridges at really low prices including delivery. I personally use cartridgemonkey.co.uk for my as they do great cheap compatible cartridges. Hope this helps

thanks for the link but I hear compatible cartridges arent very realiable - sometimes the tri color 1s end up pritnting off only 1 color, the printer breaks etc..

Nevermind - I actually searched on amazon found a business called Computer Market that sells HP49 & HP29 cartridges together for under £19 posted = which is very reasonable
