you would need to weigh up customs duty/handling fee's and hassle if you ever had warrenty issues.
TBH that would be sent (most likely) via tracked delivery and 99.9% of these are charged @ customs

    Thanks for the advice.

The one on Ebay is priced at £558.24

To buy it here in the UK the cheapest I can find is one on sale at £649

If you were charged VAT and duty, £558 would end up at around £675 so you might be best buying here. Certainly don't assume that it will get through without charges.

The other issue that can arise is what you would do if there is a fault or problem with something you receive from abroad. In practice the costs of returning an item can make it very problematic.

Have you tried Peter Cooks Guitar World in Hanwell, West London? They are very good on US guitars at the moment - seem to be passing on the benefits of a weak dollar to customers. They've got a website and deliver for about £16. Worth a look!

In case the thread suddenly doesn't make sense it is because a post has been removed.

Most if not all of that difference will disappear in delivery costs, duty and taxes etc, plus if anything goes wrong it might be difficult to get it sorted.
  • Not worth the hassle in my opinion. Just imagine if it comes with shipping damage! All that stress for very little saving is pointless.

I'd go to the shop for £649 where I can view it, play it, buy it and take it away knowing I have got exactly what I wanted and paid for! Not that I'd pay £649 for a guitar mind!!!
  • I'm afraid for my OH's guitar habit £649 is cheap!!!!

We have bought a guitar from Germany before without any problems. It came UPS and was very well packed - although it did already come in a hard case - as does the one on Ebay.
  • Ah but Germany is only across a small bit of water and part of EU so no VAT to pay.

And of course, just because you've not had a problem in the past..........blah, blah, blah

I know, I was merely pointing out that we had purchased one from outside the UK before - I know just because that went without a hiccup it doesn't mean every one will.

I will remember that next time I cross the road!!! Just cos I got across today in one piece it doesn't mean I will tomorrow
