To LPG or not to LPG?

I would certainly agree that dedicated LPG engines offer reduced regulated emissions relative to the same technology of petrol engine, Diesel is still better for CO2 but not good for particulate and NOx.
The problem is with the conversions because it can be so variable depending on what the engine is and who is converting it. I assume they are all electronic and lambda sensor controlled (in the UK conversions) to ensure the 3 way catalyst works but there is far more than that required to achieve the very low emissions of the latest petrol units .
Without a comprehensive test program we shall never know for sure. Here is a US link that seems to support this view for vehicles over there.

Have had LPG for six years and the conversion paid for itself very quickly indeed. At present the fuel near us has become much more expensive and hard to get, so we do not run on it at all times. I'm sure it is much cleaner - our car can't pass it's emission tests unless it's running on LPG. Btw, you don't have to pay congestion charge either!

Where can you buy new LPG cars??
Do they have to be ordered??
What manufacturers make LPG versions?

You can buy conversion kits for a lot less than £1800. I have many friends who have done their own conversions.0

Anyone?

Not sure which manufacturers do them now, but Vauhall, Ford and Volvo used to do them.
They aren't really any different from a LPGA converted one, they just pull a finished car from the production line and retro fit the kit in the same way.0 -
So its not cheaper to but one new
they just fit it presale and still charge you an extra £1800 on top of the fuel rrp?

Not sure about price new, probably a bit dearer than petrol equiv. You'd have to ring around.
