Hi,
I have/had this programme on disc - came free with a computer magazine YEARS ago.. ! (just googled for it & apparently it was in 1998!). However, I love it, use it all the time so I know exactly what I'm doing - it's like a running bank statement that I add my info into.
Have just bought a new laptop (as screen falling off old one...) but can't find the disc for the MM program. I think my little brother has it as I installed it for him the other week. HOwever, just in case he can't find it ....
How do I (in words of one syllable!) copy the programme across from my old laptop & reinstall on this one? I can copy it onto a blank CD or memory stick, but not sure how I then install it.
Any help much appreciated - I need to manage my money!!!!!

Generally speaking, it's not possible to do if you don't have the setup program on your hard disk - because most programs add entries to the registry during installation. These are hard to find, and may not work on the new machine if copied across anyway.
The installation may also add .DLL and similar libraries to the machine's system directories, and these won't be easy to find.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news!0 -
BTW - there's an original copy for sale on a certain auction site right now!0

Hiya,
ok, thank you - at least I know if my brother hasn't got it, then I can't copy it overNever mind.

Hi there.
I've also used money matters for quite a few years now and have moved it around various PCs without the install files.
I don't know yet if it works on Vista, but I've used it without a problem on 98, 2000 and XP. My new Vista laptop arrives in a couple of weeks so we'll see what happens there.
It's quite easy to move as it's a very simple program - this certainly doesn't work with Microsoft Office!!!!
You basically need to copy the install folder - usually C:\Program Files\MM2 and all of it's contents from your old PC to the same location on your new one. You also need to copy one .dll file. I can't remember what or exactly where it is, but if you run the money matters .exe file on your new machine it will come up with an error stating which file is missing - I think it's something like barsv3.dll ??? Go back to your old machine and do a search for that file, I think it resides in the Windows\System folder? Then copy that file to the same location on your new machine and it should work fine.
The only thing left to do then is to manually create your shortcuts to the program.
Hope this helps.

Thanks scobi-wan-kenobi. I came across your post through google. I have just successfully transferred GSP Money Matters from a PC running Windows 2000 to another running XP. The dll file is indeed "barsv3.dll" and can be found in the WINNT\system directory (W2000). I transferred it to the Windows\System directory and everything seems to work OK. Thanks Again.

Scobi-wan, only just rediscovered this thread - thank you, that's really helpful especially as I found the disc & now it has mysteriously disappeared again!!!! and I want to install it on another PC.

Re the GSP Money Matters installation. Has anyone successfully installed it on Vista with or without the disc?.0

GSP Money Matters failed to load on my computer running Windows 7 (64 bit) but I managed to get it running under “XP Mode”. However I found this very “clunky” and decided to try it by changing the operating system to Windows 7 (32 bit) and found that GSP Money Matters ran fine. Thank goodness because it’s a great program and I can’t find a modern program which has similar functionality.0

I've got this very same program and also Windows 7 64 bit. Not being computer savvy here, how do you change it to 32 bit as I need this software to work for me. Many thanks :j0
