Reposessed Property

Hi,

I've just purchased a property that was repossessed. Does anyone who has done the same have any advice. E.g. How to get the utility companies to start a fresh with us from the date we collected the keys? How to find out which utility companies are currently supplying the property?

Also, the electricity is switched off at the mains becaue the alarm was activated in the repo process. So, if I flick the main switches the alarm is going off. Any advice on getting this sorted?

Would appreciate any useful advice.

Many thanks

You just contact your favoured utility company and tell them you want electricity/gas. Without the supply details you are pretty scuppered, but they can eventually sort it out. Start soonest!!!

Alarm - you will need an alarm maintenance contract. Either that or disable the alarm. By now, the batteries are dead, but it will recharge itself if you siwtch on the electricity. However, it should have its own fused spur, so take out the fuse.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?
  • Thanks GBD. Advice taken and found an alarm man from yell.com (non-sponsored).
  • We bought a repo a few years ago, I seem to remember that our solicitor sent a letter to a credit agency, as we had baliffs banging on the door a couple of times, this stopped the visits, and I guess that you need to expect other debts will be associated with a repossession so it might be worth asking about it before you get visitors
