Sky....kept charging me!

Hi, I was wondering if anyone can help me reclaim my money from Sky.

Basically...last year (sept 2006) we got Sky for my student house...obviously it was a 12 month contract, so as I was changing house, I cancelled everything in july...such as sky talk, sky broadband, sky tv, bt line etc...

it all was cancelled fine, and the woman on the phone said as it's not 12 months yet...she would downgrade to the cheapest package and cancel it after the 12 months...

probably you can see where this is going...but in december i still was receiving bills...and it wasn't even for the minimum package (around £16 i think..)...Sky tv couldn't even have worked because I did not even have a BT Line...Sky kept charging me for 4 months and won't refund me the difference...

as a student i kind of need the £100+ they owe me :(

I emailed them and they say there is no record so that they can't refund me..i know i rang but i can't prove it!!!! arghhhh

thanks for anyones help

If you get a BT bill is your call on it? or on your mobile bill. AFAIK you can request copies of bills for your records if you don't have it. Alternatively speak to your phone provider as they should have records of your calls.

    Last year was 2007.

Whilst Sky say you must keep it connected to a BT line, it will work without it although some of the functions that would use a phone line obviously won't.

Minimum package with Sky is £16 (one entertainment mix).

A 12 month contract is exactly that and Sky are within their rights, they did you a favour reducing it to the cheapest package.

Money can't be that tight if you have broadband and digitial TV...next time you agree and sign a contract think through the financial implications first. I would never dream of entering this sort of agreement if I knew there was a chance I'd be changing address.

Sorry to say but you'll be  for the money as Sky haven't done anything wrong.

    Hi
At end of contracts it is best to stop all direct debits, and they will write to you . you can then respond referring to our phone call, if you haven't already done so.

Learnt this myself the hard way.

    taken out: sept
    cancelled: following july
12 mnth contract... you have no right to a refund. u cut it short.

when I was a student and needed the net to cover academic year i took it out in july, knowing full well i wasnt physically moving in til sept, that way it ended in july. I purposely got the keys in July when the contract started and got it installed the same day, then moved in in sept. when it came to cancel the following july i was right 2 as it had been 12 months.

you didnt think before taking out ur subscription so u feel burned...
  • I don't understand you....I fulfilled my contract for 12 months (started in sept 2006 until sept 2007....and rang to get it cancelled after 12 months...but was charged for 16 months...

I only want the refund for months 13, 14,15 and 16...

I misunderstood from the first post and apologise for that.

If you cancelled and they continued from September 2007 until January 2008 then you should have money back. I would first of all try writing to them detailing the account number (hopefully you still have paperwork relating to the account).

If you get an unsatisfactory response from them, it is then that I would threaten to get a solicitor involved in a second letter. Consider sending your letters by recorded delivery and also keeping a copy of it for future reference. If you do call them again make a note of the time, date, who you spoke to etc.

Once again apologies for misinterpreting your problem first time around
  • by the sounds of it you didn't cancel in sept - you tried to cancel in July and got it downgraded then. You should never believe that they will automatically cancel the subscription when the 12 months is up and should have chased it up to be sure - and definately so after month 13, 14 etc. I could understand 1 month extra being paid but 4?!? Sorry but that's sheer lazyness.

presumably, after your call your package cost wnet down - this idicates a contact was made... When did it go back up to cost more again? After the initially 12 months was up? If so this could be used to support what you were saying, and that it was logged incorrectly.

  • thanks everyone...I replied to their email (which said I would not get a refund) and asked them politely whether or not, if I got my BT bill to prove I rang them, would I get a refund....

and they replied saying that they check the system again and I did ring and now I get a goodwill gesture of a refund of £125....good result for a few emails..!

so therefore I like SKY now...so no need to vent about them!
