JSA/Incapacity NI contributions
Kendra
Hi, Kendra here.
I was previously on JSA (contributions based) (6 months, the maximum time allowed) and now on IB (~1.5 years). I would like to know about national insurance contributions.
Are NICs paid for me whilst I'm on IB?
I understand there's a difference between NI credits and paid contributions, but cannot find anyone to tell me the details!
If I go back to temping work, say for a few weeks, and then I am unemployed again, can I claim JSA(Contribution based), or will I have insufficent (recent?) NI contributions/credits?
I cannot claim JSA(income based) as my partner works full time. I DO want to go back to work, but I don't want to find myself out of pocket in the end....

You'll have insufficient credits as it's taken over the previous 2 financial years.I DO want to go back to work, but I don't want to find myself out of pocket in the end....
So let me get this right. You're actually able to work but would rather screw me and the other taxpayers by fraudulently claiming Incapacity benefit. I guess the article they're slating in this board ( http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=719773 ) is right.0 -
Hello there,
nope I have been very ill since 2005, and am just beginning to get back on my feet - literally! I can nearly walk like everyone else....
Anyway, no the thing is, due to fatigue, I cannot hold down a permanent full-time job week in week out, which is why I'm on IB.
Currently, I can do it for a short time whilst my condition is getting better, that is until the next relapse, which could be tomorrow or next week or ....
I am on IB. Yes I am able to work - that's what IB is about, it's not a scrap-heap, but an aid when you can't work full-time. On IB you can work up to 16 hours a week.
I have been looking for suitable part-time work given my limitations since early 2006, and I don't take too kindly to being told otherwise. I am not fraudulently claiming anything. Indeed, I am trying to get back to work (14 interviews so far, but they see the walking stick and look terrified). And now I'm asking what will happen if I do a full-time temping job, as that's the only work available to someone with my difficulties. Thing is, I suspect that will land me back in bed, so I just want to make sure it's the right thing to do.
Everyone should try my shoes, and those of people in the same position some time - it really is an eye-opener!
I hope you never become disabled, though. Wouldn't wish it on anyone.

Kendra,
Please ignore Conor's comments about your situation. He doesn't appear to understand your situation, or IB provisions.
It is correct that you would not be eligible for JSA, however if you were to need to give up work again due to your condition within 104 weeks, you would be entitled to go back on IB.
Anything else you need to know, just ask xGone ... or have I?0 -
Thank you. Don't worry, I've been doing a lot of educating people around me since I became disabled, both on what I can't do that people take for granted (walking), and on what I CAN do people don't expect. Such as decorating!
Ah, good to know I can claim IB again. Thanks again,
K.
P.S. Like your tag line - just wait until I CAN run again (one day??)0 -

You might benefit from booking an appointment with an IB adviser at the jobcentre to ask about permitted work and any other help available to get back into work.
As dmg24 says, you would have a 2 year linking period meaning that if you came off IB to start work and had to reclaim at any time within 2 years you would receive IB at the same rate as you currently receive it.0 -
Kendra there should be an advisor at the jobcentreplus who will talk to you about your condition etc, like how you feel, what type of work.
They will also be able to pass you on to organisations in your area who will help try get you back to work.Have you got a job yet?
NO? Then :shhh:0
