GIN
a tablespoon of gin in the bottom of a small wine glass, pop all your rings in (not opals) and let them soak for a while, then gently brush away the gunge using a fine soft paintbrush....Mother always did her rings like that, they still look good...............0 -

If you go back to the jewellers that you bought your ring at they may be able to do a re-finish free of charge for you. This makes it like new and should also mean that the settings are checked for wear (which should be done once a year anyway by a trained jeweller).
If they won't do a complimentary refinish - ask them to clean it with the ultrasonic machine - they shouldn't charge for this and it will dislodge all the gunk from the back of the settings.
If not the best advice is to use a toothbrush and some warm soapy water!Lightbulb moment Jan 7th 2010 - all debts cleared by Dec 2010

I am the OP and have tried various things-and i rang the jeweller today. They say they clean their jewellry with soap powder and a tooth brush (very OS) and have suggested I could take the ring back to them and they will rhodium plate the back,so I may do that.0
