Yep, 1st or 2nd of the month. But if you can draw the balance down immediately you can get interest on your money without further delays associated with closure (and then just close the account with the minimum balance) by putting it in (say) a 'Plussaver' account.
.....under construction.... COVID is a [discontinued] scam

I emptied and closed mine yesterday, but I had to phone them up as they only allow you to withdraw all money minus a pound, so you have to phone them up to get it properly closed.
    Reclaimed thanks to this site:
£175 Abbey Mortgage Repayment Fee, £170.03 Capital One Bank Charges £418.07 Lloyds TSB Bank Charges, £2,671.55 Mis-sold Endowment Policy, all for OH
  • You have it easy nowadays  , when my mother wanted to close her account at A&L just after they demutualised she had to make an appointment with the manager before they would let her (and it wasn't the same day !)

It saddens me that the Alliance Building Society branches had a very good reputation in the 1980's and look at it now. It was one of those mergers that was actually a takeover by the Leicester.

Hi milarky, do you mean transfer the balance less £1 to the linked account then close at a latter date, how does this get interest on your money without further delays??

  • I know there are restrictions on the account, but if you are leaving your money lying and not using it, the account has one of the best rates at the moment.

Just wondering, which A&L account is it that everyone is closing? Are there specific problems with them?
