what can I plant now?
My dad has said I can grow some fruit/veg in his garden :j
I'm a complete grow your own virgin so I was wondering if someone can tell me what I can start growing now? I think I can start with some potatoes in a bin, are seed potatoes best? And what other veg or fruit can I start with? It needs to be able to be grown in a pot because my dad won't be pleased if I start digging his lawn up! So if you could tell me what size pots (depth wise really) to grow things in too it would be much appreciated! :A

Aubergines, Beetroot, French or Runner Beans, (Broccoli, Cauliflower, Calebrese - dwarf varities), Courgettes and Okra - 10 inches
Sweetcorn - 12 inches
Asparagus - 18 inches
Potatoes They say several 1 foot stacking containers - I dont understand this but I think there is info on other threads about them.

I have some seed potatoes chitting at the moment; will plant 3 to a tub 18" across and a couple of feet deep.
I'll probably wait a few weeks before starting my tomatoes; we're not guaranteed frostfree until mid-May, and I've lost them in the past by starting them too early. My herbs can start now though.
Want to get some pansies and sweet peas going as well.0 -
Ooooh thanks for all the info so far!
I'm going to start potatoes, carrots, shallots and some herbs, think that should be plenty to start with!
Anyone got any recommendations on what herbs will grow this time of the year? I'd like to grow about 3 types in a pot thats about 5x20 inches, will this be big enough?
Thanks again!Sometimes you have to go throughthe rain to get to therainbow0 -
I've just read the thread annie 123 suggested and now I'm confused!
If I'm planting what I've said I'm going to, are they all going to be ok to be grown outside straight away? Or should I leave them a few weeks? I'm only asking because the other thread talks about greenhouses and we don't have one??
Any advice on this please??Sometimes you have to go throughthe rain to get to therainbow0
