Car Insurance - Changing my car in April

Hello,

My car insurance renewal is due this week. However, I have a new car due for delivery in April. Am I right in thinking that all insurance providers are going to charge me a fee to change my insurance details (in this case the entire car)? Is this fee going to be the same as say when I change my address, or will it be more since I'm changing the entire car. (Obviously I'm aware that the insurance amount will increase as the car will be newer and faster)

I guess I'm just asking for suggestions on how to tackle this. At the moment I was going to fun through the car insurance comparison sites for both my current car and my future car, and whichever provider comes up the cheapest average for both cars will be the one to go for, and I'll just have to change my car details with them in April and pay the change of details fee? I suppose it's not worth getting th cheapest current car quote, cancelling in 2 months then getting the cheapest new car quote?

Many Thanks.

  • You could always cancel when your current policy ends and pay the next two months on one of those 'payasyougo' car insurance policies, then take out the full year cover for the new one in April? It may work out less hassle that way... just a suggestion

Did you change small details e.g. address, or your actual car?

It's all down to the company concerned whether they will charge or not.

I'm in the same position - renewal due tomorrow and changing car in March/April. I asked the company I was going with and they told me that their admin fee is £17.50.

I'll just need to pay it I suppose.
