Letter today from Thomas cook changing our flights to Paphos AGAIN! We booked Manchester Airport, they cancelled this and we changed to Stansted, they then tell us that after merger with Mytravel they have duplicate flights and so cancelled some of theirs - ours being one of them! They now expect us to go from the north of england to Gatwick and come back at some rubbish hour! Anyone else get this too?? Thinking of cancellin I'm so cross!!

from Yorkshire to Gatwick its only a 3 and a half hour drive... you make it sound like you have to drive all the way to Paphos!
have you spoken to them to see if there are any alternative flights? maybe in all the remerging and shuffling, they've put flights back on from MAN?0 -
I agree with jevsy, he's being messed around. I'd check to see what else is available and if there's anything suitable I'd cancel. Who wants a three and a half hour drive before and after a holiday if you've an airport on the doorstep that could get you to the same place.0

You don't know if he lives near Manchester though.
We're travelling from Manchester airport in May and we live about 2½ hours north of Manchester. If our flights were changed to Gatwick, I'd be cross as it would mean driving over 6 hours plus extra petrol costs to get to the airport or the expense of booking connecting flights. Here I go again on my own....0 -
Last time we went to Gatwick was nearly 5 hours, and flight times of 14.00hrs means we're travelling in peak period. Have family at Man. so no parking payable whereas Gatwick is petrol AND parking! Yes they have Newcastle available but the supplement is £95 each! Not on my budget! It's the principle as well, "our world revolves around you" is their slogan - humph!0

It is a nightmare when airlines do this but unfortunately they can do it and it happens all the time. What they say about cancelling flights due to the merger with My Travel is indeed true, both companies flew to most of the same destinations and normally on the same day so quite a lot are being cancelled. When the flight schedules for summer 2008 were initially put in place it would have been around this time last year if not end of 2006. This would have been before anything was known about the merger.
They will have given you the option to cancel and have your deposit refunded, if I was you I would see what else is available from Manchester and if suitable book it as soon as possible before the flight is full.
It's not just Thomas Cook/My Travel who are doing this, much the same is also going on with Thomson/First Choice as they have also merged.:j Debt free since 31/01/08:j

You sound very knowledgable on this!! Trouble is it is a package holiday and nothing else compares price-wise plus not alot of availabilty now. Don't ever go with travel agent usually. book all independently. No mention of refund on deposit. Flight into Gatwick lands 00.15 then baggage claim and travel home means no school or work that day.0

I have had various jobs in the travel industry including being a travel agent a few years ago. It's not the fault of the travel agent, if you had booked this independently then the same thing would still have happened.
Changing your airport again is classed as a major change and you are entitled to your deposit back, if that is what you want and then book something else.
When the changes happen at this time of year is is difficult to get another holiday for the same price as the prices have gone up since you booked.
The only options you have is to stick with the changed flights or demand your deposit back and try to rebook somewhere else.
Below is the section from Thomas Cook's T&Cs that is relevant
Changes Made By Us Before TravelFrom time to time we may have to change details of the Holiday you have booked. If any change will have a significant effect on your Holiday, we will tellcharges. We will consider an appropriate refund of insurance premiums paid if you can show that you are unable to transfer or reuse your policy.
you about it before your Holiday, if there is time. Changes we will tell you about include:
• Change of your UK departure airport
• Significant change of your destination
• A change of more than 12 hours to the time you leave the UK or your destination
• If we downgrade your accommodation by one full 'Tour Operator' rating or
• If the swimming pool will not be available for an extended period during your Holiday and no alternative pool is available either at the property or
nearby.
If you do not want to accept a significant change, which we will tell you about before you depart, we will, if we are able to do so, offer you an alternative
Holiday of equivalent or closely similar standard and price at no extra cost, or a less expensive Holiday, in which case we will refund the difference in
price. If you do not wish to take the alternative we offer you, you can choose a different Holiday offered for sale by us and pay, or receive a refund of, any
price difference.Or, if you prefer, you can cancel your Holiday and receive a full refund of any money you have paid to us, except for any amendment

Great news! Took my letter of complaint into TC today, gotta phone call shortly after allowing us to change our departure airport to Newcastle at no additional cost!! Faith in the travel agent industry restored? Mmm we'll see! No guarantees that there will be no further changes though.0
