ABBEY CREDIT CARD

It's in the new T&Cs that they can do it. And from recent posts it looks like they might be doing it. This from Reaper on the 16th Oct:When and where have Abbey/MBNA said they will charge for new BT's? :oYes. There has been lots of discussion about this in other threads.
All MBNA cards started charging 2% with a maximum of £35, although I heard that has now been increased to £50 or more.
In theory it is waived if you do the balance transfer at the same time as applying for the card but even then people report being hit by it.
I doubt that you can prove that it is. That makes it arguable. When is it 'arguable' that a credit rating is not increased by cancelling a card ???
You would probably feel better keeping both deals and make money out of the card that annoyed you.Cancelling an agreement with a company you at at loggerheads and who are making money out of you makes you feel better esp if you have a better deal with someone else
Threatening to cancel might. And cancelling a card sometimes does lead to a better deal ;)
Can we call a truce now? I'm going away for a few days and can't keep up with all this.0 -
Have a good trip

Please get ur facts right before posting esp re: MBNA & LloydsTSB BT charges. There is enough confusion around this without reading unsubstantiated opinions which cause further confusion.
As always everyone needs to check out there own deal.0 -
Telling Johnllew what to do and what not to do in the credit card domain is a bit like telling Rooney how to kick a football................................I have put my clock back....... Kcolc ym0

Robert - have sent you a PM - even Rooney can be inaccurate

MBNA charges £35 going up to £50 in Nov
Now on a 9k transfer over 9 months your goign to make at 5.1% = £344 - Take off £35 and you get £309.
Imagine if the monthly saver accounts said to you, we will put our own 9k cash into your monthly saver account right at tyhe start, and you pay us back at £125 per month, with the balance due on anniversery.
How many would leap at such an account ? - EVERYONE !
That's what were getting.0 -
Robert - have sent you a PM - even Rooney can be inaccurate :o
Thanks ... I have read it. ;)...............................I have put my clock back....... Kcolc ym0 -
Why? It's an MBNA card and the likelihood is they'll offer you another 0% promo in due course.
Totally agree with this, especially with MBNA. I have found that once you clear the MBNA

Whoops pressed the wrong key!
Anyway as i was saying MBNA tend to offer an additional 0% period, so I these rather than taking an extra card. As MBNA finance so many cards now, its worth restricting them.

Regarding the above arguments -- oooh! scratch your eyes out! -- and advice, just for the record, to date I have never been offered any repeat 0% deals [apart of course from the egg anniversary] on any cards - and I've had MBNA Abbey & A+L cards - whether I've kept them or rung up & cancelled them. I have however been turned down by MBNA for an extra card. I cancelled the A+L card some time ago [or at least I think I did... I've read some of the other threads about cards not being cancelled when you think they are] & have just recently cancelled the Abbey card. I have just applied for a Virgin card, which as everybody knows is also an MBNA card, & am waiting with bated breath for their decision -- a 60-quid Virgin wine voucher is resting on it!!Expect the worst & hope for the best...0
