Hi - We are currently selling / buying and the solicito has requested 2 forms of ID - one to be a passport and one to be a something to confirm address - being a utility bill of less than 1 month old.
Now the passport i not a problem but we have nothing else with his address on it - it seems that ALL utilities are in my name not his.
WE do have various letters from the financial advisor, estate agents dated within the last month to him.
We really do have nothing in the last month with his address on it - it is as if he does not ive here !!
What can we do ?
I have requeste a water bill which is in his name but that will take 7 days and we need to prove ID on Monday !
He has a Driving License and we will hopefully in the nest few days have the mortgage statement for the past 12 months.
Thanks

It's not paranoia if they really are after you.

The driving licence should do it, that has the address.
To ask for a utility bill less than a month old is mad. How many utility bills are that frequent? I don't have a utility bill less than a month old, and they're all in my name!
Basically, he just has to satisfy himself of the ID - I'm sure there is no hard and fast rule, so you should be able to reason with him.0 -
Thanks - we used a car insrance letter for the financial advisor but i sent that back to the insurance company yesterday as it was part of the quote and as we cancelled we had to return the paperwork:mad:
We hae saved £170 by switching insrance though - but we are left with no ID as the new insrance is in my name:mad:
Everything is in my name purely because I sort out all the bills e.t.c and it is easier that way as a lot of people will only talk to the account holder and hubby is at work all day but it means that we have very little with him on it
So a driving license and passport will be acceptable as ID ?It's not paranoia if they really are after you.0 -
Utility bills upto three months old usually can be used. If you are shown on the current mortgage statement, you could use that as its valid for twelve months. Likewise a council tax bill is valid for twelve months.
If the solicitor isn't happy with these, ask him to do an electronic check on you.0 -
My husband and I live in Spain. We still own a house in the UK.
Our water company(Severn Trent) in the UK allows us to put all three of our names on the bill. Our son (as he lives in the house), me (as I'm the one who rings up about it if needs be) and my husband (just to get some i.d at that address).
Maybe you could try something like this so that you don't have the same problem in the future?(AKA HRH_MUngo)

MadMonkey,
I have a similar problem - I deal with all the bills because he worries about what his employers will think about him dealing with personal business in work time (but doesn't care what mine think, obviously!).
The gas bill is in our joint names but it comes quarterly and we hadn't had one since November (so it was the most recent bill). I took it to the solicitor (a property specialist) personally on Monday and she said it was absolutely fine, before taking a certified copy and returning it to me. Sounds like your solicitor is being over-fussy - dig out the last water bill.
Another option is to see if they would accept something else? His employer would be able to verify his address, and it may be written on his payslip.0
