IDE stopped working

This is puzzling me as I have done this twice on two separate PCs in a week!

I disconnected my Combo DVD/CDRW which is connected to the Secondary IDE port.

Now im not exactly sure what I did on both occassions but when I reconnected the Combo to the ide port, my pc simply refuses to recognised the combo exist. Ive checked the bios and it says nothing connected/swapped connectors etc. The weird thing is that I have done this twice recently. On my other pc I gave up and made the combo a slave of the HDD.

What am i doing wrong and what can i do to resolve this?

Did you turn off the power before disconnecting the cable? If you didn't, you could have damaged the port where the cable plugs into the motherboard, or damaged the equipment itself. In this case, you might be able to claim under your warranty.

Or, are you sure you pushed the actual IDE plug back into the motherboard and/or DVD/CDRW drive firmly. The slot they plug into can be very tight sometimes, and it is hard to tell whether the plug is conencted or not.

cheers mate - i def took these precautions- to do it once would be fine but to do it twice is bizarre! Its as if the port is disabled....

You can enable/disable IDE channels in the BIOS. Has it disabled itself?

Can you press enter on the CD and change it to Auto?
