I think what you need to do is contact CAB, they will advise you to write to all your creditors explaining your situation, enclosing a SOA and then make an offer of £1.00 per month. JSA is the minimum needed to live on.

I'm not sure how you can afford to pay your father £120 per month, what does this cover as he receives Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit.

For what it's worth, once you are back at work your father should still be entitled to HB and CTB, you have to send in some wage slips and a deduction called a Non-Dependant deduction will be taken off his benefit. I don't know the rates off the top of my head but can check when I am at work later this week.
The idea with this is that the deductions are made up by the Non-Dependant as housing costs and then obviously whatever your father charges you as well.

I think Eager Elephants advice re citizens advice and token £1 payments is good while you are not working.

Why dont you apply to your local asda, tesco, etc for work? I appreciate you want a job in IT, but this could give you £800 per month while you look for that perfect job.

At £7500 your debts are not huge (although I'm sure they seem to be while you are not working). The interest rates you are paying are high - I suggest once you get a job, you look for a credit card that offers 0% on balance transfers (like egg).

Er how do you work that out?

You dont know me at all, ive spent a good few years in education and have worked all my life. Just because I have fallen on hard times does not give you the right to accuse me of being a dole scrounger.

The advise of spendalot and eager elephant is the advise that I need not snide remarks by you.

£1500 of my debt is from student days, the rest is from a funeral and a rather expensive car accident. I do not go looking for debt unlike allot of people on this forum who are in a far worse position than I am.

@troo if you only spend £60 a year on clothes you must look like a proper tramp. A pair of shoes is £20 and jeans are £15 a pair. I think what I spend is a very small amount and I only just look decent and respectable.
    I don't look like a tramp :p

I had a job interview in clothes that were old, the newest thing I wore was a pair of trousers that were 3 years old - and yes, I got the job. After a year I left to go self-employed, 1st client knew me so didn't really care how I looked. But the 2nd client cared, and I still got some work from her.

Shop in the sales, cut the mobile contract down to the bare minimum (hubby has just done this, he's on Orange, I assume other networks let people do this?), soon you'll find ways to cut back on absolutely everything without feeling like you're losing out on anything.

Ok Girls and boys lets draw a line under whats been said so far, and start again.

Ihatedebt, persoanlly 25 quid a week is not THAT much on socialising when its the only thing you have going for you at present, however any cut backs at all are helpfull, and thats what the previous posters were trying to say, thats all.

Your biggest problem is lack of income, even working at Macdonalds when your on your !!!!!! is ok you know. Also quite a few of my mates are working on the railways labouring at £100 a day, theres a few firms doing it, Jarvis is one. I think its all through agencies so get out the yell.com and get looking at agency work, after all if your paying for 'tinternet let it work for rather than against.

Ask any local builders, or mates if they need labourers especially at weekends as the normal ones cant be bothered working weekend quite often.

Im actually quite rubbish ay asking for work i think its prowdness thin, but when needs must!

Wish you luck mate its poo on the dole and take advise in the manner its dished out and thatis, to help you help yourself.

    Good luck, Nelly.

I understand how you are feeling. Every one is getting at you.
You have a debt problem. You can't live with it you have accepted that. That is step one. You are here looking for answers. That is step two. You are getting some good advice but you need to take it on board and act on it.
Go to the CAB with all the paper work and figures they will help you sort out your debt and speak to people on your behalf. (The first time is the worst.)
As soon as you are back at work your debts will of decreased and you will be able to clear them quicker.
