hmmmm Minimum payments are £150 minus £100 saved from not goin out leaves £50 still to pay. Even if I find the other £50 im still only paying minimum payment which means nothing is payed off the debt.

Not so simple is it smart !!!!!!!

Then get rid of the Car whilst on Benefit. You can get a another car once you start work can't you? It's obvious your not going to get a job in the near future, so i'd dump the car at least..

When the Debt problem is yours and your not ready to take responsability for it you will not like the advice you are being given.
You are in a black hole and you cannot see the difference these small changes can make. Believe me they can and will. Take the advice on board you are being given. You are feeling sensative at the moment and cornered. You like me just want the quick fix answer and its not there. Sorry!
My life will never be as it was, but I am a richer person inside.

Car is worth about £150 quid. Insurance and tax are all paid as I paid them all in 1 go while I was working, only the petrol to pay for.

I think im better off keeping it because if I get a job a bit further away I would have the expense of buying another car straight away, im unlikely to get 1 as reliable for the money id get for this 1.

    car tax £10pm
    car insurance £31pm
    petrol £25pm
    Car maintenance??? £12.50-£25pm
    clothes £20pm
    socialising/goin out £100pm
    Entertainment(cinema, concert) £30pm

All these can be put to one side..you state your car is paid for, but you still have them in your outgoings

You don't need to pay £20 a month on clothes, try e bay or charity shops (some charity shops sell designer clothes that can't be sold in shops) The shops have them returned and they send them to the charity shops as they can't re sell them, littlewoods do this a lot.

Socialising you can do in the park for free, you can go to the pub, but have lemonade

Me and my kids have had to sacrifice not going to the cinema  you have to do this to help yourself

My kids have made sacrificies and they don't grumble like you are doing

    But that does equal £150?

And that's not including the £70 extra odd on mobiles/phone and internet each month. Or the £90 per month that you are spending on your car. If the money isn't there, then you just can't service these bills.

Just to put things into perspective, if you were to reprioritise and use say £250 per month towards paying off your debts, you'd be completely debt free by August 2008*. If you only pay £150 per month off these, it's going to take you just over six years of payments to clear this. This is why members on this site will query every part of a budget, as not only will it save you hundreds (if not thousands!) of pounds interest, it will also help you to gain back control of your life so much more quickly.

If you carry on as you are, it's never going to happen, and yes, you are much more likely to get into more debt, which you are right, can be incredibly depressing, and will drag you down for years, blocking any chances of a place (and a life) of your own outside of debt.

Getting angry with members of this site because they are not telling you what you want to hear is also not helping you out either. Opinions are good, even those that we don't agree with, as it helps to create clarity, and you never know, a different perspective could be just what you need?

As for not being able to find work, we can only post suggestions to help as to where to look, but ATEOTD, the ball is in your court. As far as I can see from these figures, you need to start earning an income before you're going to be able to deal with this effectively. If it starts as something temporary (as many full time jobs do), then so be it.

I put the money for the car away as I will need it when insurance and tax is due. The maintence is an estimate.

I dont go to the pub and dont spend any other money on things like people keep suggesting I am with my lavish lifesyle.

Im not a woman and dont have 3 wardrobes full of clothes I can slowly work through, I buy clothes as I need them and thats not very often. When I do buy clothes I but stuff that lasts and can be worn in as many different situations as possible.

I am not moaning just I have the belief there is more to life than money. You are only here once and im not gonna stop doing everything just because im in debt from no fault of my own. If it comes down to it they can chase me for the debts as I have no assets they can take from me and the loss of credit does not concern me.

I will cut down on all the things people have said but I am not becoming a slave to debt and having no other life. I do not have the things in life that keep some of you going i.e children, good familys etc so what little things I do are my only enjoyment of life.
