Remove tree and build wall

Options
How much would be reasonable to remove an average size apple tree. The tree is on a raised bed and we'd want the bed also lowering about 40cm, in an area about 4m sq two of the sides would need a retaining wall to keep the flower bed up. By doing this it would allow the lawn to flow into this part of the garden.

I have been quoted £3140 but this seems excessive to me,

Oh and because it's in the back garden it would have to be done by hand.

Thanks

from your description it does seem very excessive quote.
    get 2 more quotes.
maybe worth getting separate quotes/companies for the 2 jobs?

Could it be any cheaper if you removed the tree yourself?
Hi there! We’ve had to remove your signature. It was so good we removed it because we cannot think of one so good as you had and need to protect others from seeing such a great signature.

I'll see if I can get other quotes, or I'll just live with it, 3k seems too much for me.

    Thanks for your advice.

i would agree with you. for saving the 3k, i would remove the tree and the raised bed. then just have a plain lawn.
an alternative is to surround the bed with another method. ie railway sleepers? lot cheaper than 3k.
    Get some gorm.

ill remove your tree for 1k! (: why not buy and axe for 15 quid?? and a good spade....my advise do whatever you can to save what you can. the tree will come out quite easily just dig about 1m all the way round it and then put some rope round it and PULL!
