Flogas failed to do the safety inspections I paid for

I guess most domestic Flogas customers don’t know that the standing charge on their Flogas bulk underground LPG tank includes hire and the cost of statutory annual safety testing of the tank. You probably have no idea if it has been done, or when. The tank also has to be emptied and more detailed tests carried out every ten years.
I have just discovered that Flogas have not been inspecting mine. I am obviously concerned about the safety and legal implications, but also because Flogas charge me 20 pence per day for the hire and maintenance of their tank – a service they have not been providing. I have raised this directly with the CEO of Flogas who seems to be looking in to it and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) also have the complaint but I have heard nothing yet. Having spoken to some more junior staff at Flogas it seems they sub-contract the work to an inspection company who have missed my inspections (maybe through oversight or difficulty with access) but made no attempt to contact me or re-visit. From the reaction I had from Flogas is that this may be a widespread problem.
Leicestershire Trading Standards (where Flogas are based) are not interested “as they have no intelligence to suggest this is a widespread problem affecting other customers” – But I think it might be. Anybody else had the same problem? If you don’t know contact Flogas and ask when your domestic bulk underground tank was last tested. Don’t be fobbed off by them telling you the drivers visually inspect the tank; they cannot conduct the annual safety tests.
Oh, and under the various HSE and other regulations affecting these installations you or your insurer could be liable for any danger or harm caused by the tank on your property, more so if you neglect to ensure it’s maintained and used safely – just a thought.
