Fitting a flueless gas fire?

I'm having trouble getting people to come out and give us estimates for this - basically I'm in a brand new property, with gas piped to the floor of the living room. I have a flueless gas fire which I want to be connected (and vented to the exterior wall) and fitted to the wall. The pipe would be basically hidden from view behind the wall. The only people who came out quoted £600 and clearly didn't want to get involved. I've made appointments with three other companies none of whom have turned up. Any advice/opinions would be gratefully received! Thanks

thanks. Bizarrely, most of the people (including the guy who did come and quote) have been recommended. I just wonder is the job too big/too small/too complicated for them to want to bother with??

    Talk to a fire shop.

IME, you have fire fitters who do it day in day out and these are the only people you can get to do it. Noone else is interested.

    Thanks Doozergirl, you're probably right.
  • We brought a flueless fire and surround about 2 years ago and with fitting it cost £1200. The fire was the cheapest flueless one in the shop but can't remenber exact amont but think fitting was about £400. We had to have a vent to (just a big hole in the wall really) and the mess was terrible!!!
Would agree with Doozergirl and talk to the shop.

  • Good morning: Many CORGIs don't hold the gas fire qualification... the installation of flueless gas fires is a contentious issue amongst CORGIs eg. see this thread on another forum frequented by the pros.... http://www.diynot.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=478837#478837 My OH, Corgi Guy, wouldn't have one:eek: Have you considered an electric fire?

Agree with Canucklehead - my husband who is qualified for fires and all his other Corgi reg mates wouldnt get involved in a flueless fire - its not worth the worry.
