B&Q kitchens, Recommended? Also need Fitter, london area?

Options
Hi All

I have kitchen which is around 11x9 feet which I would like to have completely renovated. I have purchased the kitchen from B& Q and am now looking for a suitable fitter in the West London area. I have been strongly advised to go with someone who comes recommended hence, this thread!

Can anyone suggest a suitable fitter who can complete the job within a time frame of say 1.5 weeks and is prepared to take an offer of around £2.5k (Is this too much? not enough?) Anyway that is the top end of my budget. I am based in Hampton, Middlesex so anyone in a 10 mile radius would be great. Say Hownslow, Isleworth, Twickenham, Brentford, Richmond etc.

Also I would like to know if anyone was unhappy with their B&Q kitchens, I was told the the carcasses are quite weak and can present problems for fitters? Is this really the case...

Any advice you can offer would be much appreciated and thank you in advance.

Kind Regards

Can anyone help me out here?
  • Why don't you do it yourself ? I'm on my well will be at the end of the month when it's delivered second B&Q kitchen. My first one I recon is about 8+ years old and is the old Bernstien kitchens they used to do and the carcuses were only 15mm thick where as the new ones come as 18mm thick as standard.

The only problem I've had with my last kichen was two of the door hinges came away from the carcuses (not the doors) with use and I found it difficult to get them screwed back in again.

The doors on the other hand were fine.

As for doing it yourself, myself (a girlie), my teenage son, and my friend John fitted his sisters kitchen without too much trouble. The units themself screw together in minutes and hanging them is not too bad either especially if your putting them in the same place as old units. If you are moving your units or putting in a totally new kitchen, then as long as you can find the main beam in your kitchen to support your units you'll be fine.

As for the sinks / taps. Not too bad, what a difference those flexi taps make. The worktops are heavy, very very heavy so please take care there. I've got joining strips on mine and I'm happy enough with that although when I replace mine I'm getting the bunkers mitred as I'm getting a fitted oven and hobb as opposed to another freestanding cooker (I'm replacing my near 20 year old Tricity President Cooker).

Good luck with your refit and sorry I can't help with costs.

£2500? Why don't you ask B&Q to do it for that price!

What do you want them to do apart from fit the acutal units? I'll send my chippy down from Worcester for that price!

    Xmas Saver!
Save cash buy building the cabinets yourself, fitters are costing a job by the hour, so if they only have to fit them, it costs less. You could also remove the old units yourself, again saving cash. I wouldn't mess around with electrics or Gas, as could be dangerous, and I would recomend a plumber for the sink etc. Another thread on here had someone paying Ikea to fit a kitchen and that was £1200 and took 2 guys 2 days. I don't think they did anything themselves. hope it helps.

B&Q get around a 1/3rd of their fitters take so will always be higher than if you go to someone independant of them
