Heres the reply from the Registry Trust. It seems that a default can only be marked satisfied if paid in full. My only thought is that is paid on full the same as owing nothing? Going to keep digging on this one!

    Dear Mr Isle

Thank you for your recent email.

A county court judgment registration is not affected by any discharge from
bankruptcy. However, a judgment can be recorded as satisfied if either you
or the claimant provides the court with evidence that it has been paid in
full. If you are forwarding proof of payment, you must quote the case number
to the court, and enclose the court fee of £15.00 (cheque/postal order
payable to HMCS). In either case, the court will notify us to mark the
judgment as satisfied and in the latter case, will provide you with a
    Certificate of Satisfaction.

On receipt of notification from the court, the Register will be amended and
the credit reference agencies advised so that their records can also be
    updated.

Judgments over six years old are removed from both the Register and credit
    reference agency records.

You should send copies of your discharge from bankruptcy to the credit
reference agencies, so that they can amend their files.

    Yours sincerely

It is because of legal stuff to get a CCJ marked as satisfied, legally to get them marked as satisfied you have to pay the full amount to clear it, by entering into bankruptcy you effectively prevent that from happening, as thought the debt no longer exists you have not paid the full amount in hard cash.

However, some but not all creditors are open to the idea, that should you offer to pay the court fees to get it marked as settled they will do this (as they neither make or lose from it) but it is entirely up to the discretion of the individual creditor.

Also remember it will drop off before the bankruptcy anyway!

Plus, as has been said, these CCJ's from 2002 will disappear from you Credit Reference Files automatically sometime this year anyway.
