Offer me a deal if I tell them I am leaving?
I have been a customer of theirs for 7 Years, Am very Interested in the A&L Offer, but am reluctant to apply untill I have moved into my house because I don't want to affect my final mortgage offer.
Any thoughts on this?
Anyone tried the same with there own Banks?

Its always worth a try. You can tell them that you are considering leaving, tell them about the offer and ask can they do you a better deal. I have had it many times with mobile phone operators amongst other things and more often than not they will offer you somethingWycombe Till I Die0

I shall Have my lunch, and then give them a call0

Barclays? No chance! They don't give a hoot.
I tried that. Wrote them a brief but explanative letter about how I've been with them for 9 years, how the market for bank accounts is changing and I'm interested in exploring my options. I asked them to confirm the current rates they give me and to indicate where they can offer me a better rate if any. I told them that if they are unable to offer me something competitive then my sincere gratitude for services thus far and I shall be moving banks.
Did I even hear from them at all regarding that? Nope.
I received a courtesy call from them about 3 months later - 3 months after I'd transferred all my DDs & s/os to A&L, asking if everything was going smoothly and whether I'd be interested in a personal loan at 9.9% APR! I couldn't help it but I laughed for at least 30 seconds, thanked her and declined. I explained that I'd already moved banks as they ignored my letter and their rates are so uncompetitive. She tried to give me some spiel about how internet banks cannot offer the level of service that other banks do etc etc. I was in a busy shop but decided to give her an hour of my time to explain bullet by bullet why that sales pitch does not work anymore in today's financial climate.
Anyway I don't think Barclays is the 'moneysaver's bank' and quite frankly, I don't think they care. The reason people don't move right down inside the carriage is that there's nothing to hold onto when you're in the middle.0 -
what a waste of time, they just tried selling me their additions package.
Screw that, I had that for years with no benefit
sod em, i shall be taking my business elsewhere0 -
Have read about their new package 'Additions Plus' which apparently gives you an £5000 overdraft and a £5000 credit card both interest free for ten months. This is provided you pay in £1000 every month. Not a bad deal, but may be for new customers only ???It's always the grass that suffers, irrespective of whether the elephants are fighting or making love !!!0

Yeah new customers only i'm afraid (Just like the advert!!!)
I went in and spoke to a personal banker after my previous telephone call.
I quote "No there is nothing we will do for existing customers."
Sod em then, they can stick my account up themselves!!!!0 -
Ask to speak to the branch manager - they might be able to offer you a better deal.Amazon sellers club - member number 63.

They charge a monthly fee for having the 'Additions Plus' and this erodes the gain derived from it.The reason people don't move right down inside the carriage is that there's nothing to hold onto when you're in the middle.0 -
There is a £12 monthly fee for Additions Plus, but for new customers paying in more than £1000 per month, this fee will be waived for the first 10 months. You can cancel the package at any time anyway, so it's a good offer for those who qualify.Amazon sellers club - member number 63.

I bank with them myself & have a friend who works in the Head Office so asked their view. This is purely my opinion:
I'd also recommend asking to speak to the Manager. Occasionally, if they aren't available, I'd ask for your request to be put to the area director who have much more discretion and flexibility. The area director is directly responsible for income and service - they'll not want to lose valuable customers.
I have an incling Barclays will be 'beefing up' it's current accounts offers over the coming months and if you hang on, you may get a christmas present without the hassle of switching your direct debits, salary, etc
Hope you find this useful
