Black v white PVC guttering

Hello

We are thinking of having our very tatty guttering replacing, but not sure whether to go for black or white PVC. Our neighbours have black painted cast iron, so would like black for consistency (semi) but I have been told that black PVC is more expensive than white, and that it doesn't last as long. Is that true? If anyone out there has any experience with black PVC (guttering that is....!), would love to hear.

The other option is to paint existing cast iron - as neighbours have done. But not sure about how this would compare as far as cost goes.

If anyone has any thoughts, would love to hear.
Thanks.

Black PVC fades. I didn't have either, went for extruded aluminium, all one length so no leaky joints. But I've only seen it in white but far superior to PVC.

white can discolour too...ie pick up moss and other colours and look greeny, so double edged sword?

Well that's what I was thinking - it's white now, but looks so awful - all green and brown and mossy. Can't decide which is worse! How does the extruded aluminium compare in price? I suppose painting the existing cast iron brings in maintenance issues as well.......?

Before everyone started having upvc fascias etc. all the guttering was black, we had it at our old house and it never faded.

In comparison, the new profiles in upvc guttering which come in brown/caramel etc are more expensive than white. We had woodgrain fascia and caramel guttering and so far it hasn't faded.

It may be worth painting your old one.

The aluminium is slightly dearer but nothing much. It does get dirty but after 5 years there's no moss or algae growing on it. Perhaps because the coating is anodised.
