When buying a house ...why does completion seem to always be arranged for a friday ?
Is there any good reason (other than people have the whole weekend to move in/out ?)
We are looking to complete over easter and good friday is clearly a bank holiday ....so *could* people reasonably asked to complete during the middle of that week ?

can be done any time any day of the week, however most people like month end , usally a friday so they have two days to settle in , also mortgage payments most people pay monthly however you can choose the start date as im sure the f.advisors on this board will confirm.
Yes the removal vans are cheaper mid week same as aerial fitters etc....my bark is worse than my bite!!!!!!!!0 -
A small element of it will be because it gives you the weekend to settle in if you have to go to work.
Other than that it is largely 'traditional' and best avoided.
We always aim for a Monday as most removal companies will give a sizeable discount for moving then as it is their quietest day. A good 15% cheaper than the rest of the week when we used Pickfords.0 -
As Merlin says its cheaper to go for another day. You are also more likely to get your keys a bit earlier as the system isn't clogged up with with everyone else trying to move. Another advantage is that its easier to sort out any issues the next as day as solicitors, utility companies etc are easier to contact during the week.0

Just an anecdotal true story as to why Friday completions should be avoided.
Solicitors go out for a long lunch and forget to send on the completion moneys.0 -

Many a true word spoken in jest - especially when it's a liquid lunch (thank goodness for solictors secretaries).0 -
True several friends have been hit for the chains interest/costs (£800-1200) when they at the bottom didn't go through on time.Trollfever wrote: »Just an anecdotal true story as to why Friday completions should be avoided.
