The trick with these is they only promises to beat your renewal price, not other quotes. No good for young drivers for instance.
Also has to be a like for like basis and you can bet they go through that with a fine tooth comb. As an example, it has to be a minimum £100 excess on your renewal. If you only have a £50 excess, you might not get the deal.0

They always undercut by £10 the renewal price you put on the form hence never having to give it free.
It was on Martins blog last week.
You have to prove the renewal price as well when you take out the policy or they won't honour the price.I beep for Robins - Beep Beep

It seems a very odd promotion.
They would surely rather beat a price by £1 than give it away for free.0

 It's pretty transparent really.
They want people to think they are getting a guaranteed good deal.
However if you've been around for a bit you know that renewal quotes are generally uncompetitive and you can get something better as a "new" customer elsewhere.
So they are only promising to beat something that's uncompetitive to start with.
You can probably get better by shopping around or using quidco, however this might appeal to the lazy if they think they get a good deal without the hassle of shopping around.0
