Hi everyone
I have been lurking on here for ages. Wasn't sure where to put this as it covers lots of topics but here goes:
I have been struggling with money esp. for the last 12 months, when quit my (reasonably) well paid job to move cities to live with my lovely boyfriend. Have applied for loads of jobs and with agencies, money has been much reduced, but we have managed by both following MSE tips and not going out.
Anyway, we rent, we want to buy but just impossible cos of me not earning for one, and debts etc. Found a lovley house to rent, just about could afford it, had to stay at the out-laws for a month beforehand (which put loads of strain on our relationship, long story- but can't happen again - the staying at his parents). Contract due for renewal in March, just out of the blue the agency say the landlord wants to sell. AM so gutted, we are so tight for money we can't afford to find somewhere else and pay another month/6 weeks deposit as money is sooo tight at the moment as only one income. Also all the rents seem to have gone up since 12 months ago.
So I am feeling so upset, thought we had the house to rent for as long as we needed (thats what we were led to believe a year ago). AM claiming JSA but thats another story, hasn't come through, rang them today and cried down the phone (lost the plot), as they are now saying that the documentation i gave them, they have lost, am gonna lose my JSA, haven't even received a penny yet, and really need some income.
Just ranting really but feel so low

Chin up.
Can you drive? A couple of times in my life things have gone tits-up career-and-money wise. My saviour has been agency driving. I've used Protemp but theres loads of others out there.
When you're in a rut and you need to get out of the house and need cash asap, theres nothing better than driving a palette of cellophane sheets across the country with your CDs playing, no pressure and no one on your back. Cross country driving gives you time to really reflect and regroup.
Its a good few years since I've done it, but back then the hourly rate was something like £7. Not going to set the world alight but it certainly eases the pressure. The best bit is when you pull into the loading bay and you get the looks of shock when you get out of the van you're not a big hairy fat bloke.
Its probably a million miles away from your sphere of experience, it is for me too, I'm a fashion designer!! But all you need is a driving license and a good attitude.
If you can't drive, sorry for a useless sugeestion!
Hope things come good for you soon.0 -
Can I suggest you post on the Debt Free Wannabee board as you will get a much more sympathetic response and great tips (on to of Phirefly's great start)?
At the risk of being attacked for saying it, the housing board is not a very sympathetic place for people with probems.

Poor you! Good luck..
First of all, would you not qualify for housing benefit if not earning?
Can always rent room/s rather than whole house if money tight. Ask bank/family for temporary loan whilst pay new deposit before get old one back.
I believe that if you're seriously up against the wall (esp if it's all their fault!) that the Dss should give you some emergency funding to tide you over. Tax credits?
Hopefully someone with better knowledge than me will be along to advise soon.
There ARE lots of jobs out there if you're desperate - I got some great part-time home-based work recently thanks to recommendations off this very website - check the up your income forum for ideas...

Thanks all for the replies.
I have now posted on debt-free wanabee board as I realise I was on wrong board.
Thanks for the driving suggestion Phirefly- I do drive but not very much and have lost my confidence.0 -
Surely if you quit your previous job voluntarily, you're not entitled to JSA ?"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

That was a year ago- had to quit as moving to another part of the country.
Sorry can see thats not very clear. That was my last permanent work. Last work was in November, that was ended by the company- it was a temporary job.0 -
Finding jobs are not as easy as people seem to think.
You can't "just take any job" because they don't want you. You're either over-qualified, under-qualified or simply not experienced (yes, even bog cleaners have experience).
Many jobs have 100-200 people going for them.
Many people are geographically challenged. Living in areas where there simply aren't many jobs to start with - and travelling distances are large. Public transport non existant. Pay low/driving costs high.
Good luck with the job search.
If you say which town/area you are in, maybe somebody from that region might be able to give you the heads up on companies to look into etc.0 -
Thanks all for replying
I've started this up on the DFW board- I'm new to this posting business- do i have to close down this thread on this board- as I don't want to replicate and posted on the wrong board.
Want to put all your replies onto the other thread- can I do this?0
