Hotpoint 5 year parts warranty!

So I bought a Hopoint Dryer 2 years ago, partly due to the lovely big blue transfer stuck on the front saying free 5 year parts warranty...
So today the dryer door stops closing, looks like the catch. So I call the 0870 number, well actually another number I got from say no to 0870, and spoke to 3 different people as I kept being put through to the wrong person it seems.
Finally end up talking to the parts department....
"So sir you want to get the door latch, when do you want an engineer to come out?"
"Erm, I don't want an engineer to come out, I'm an engineer myself and perfectly happy to change the latch, I just want the part covered by my 5 year parts warranty"
"Sorry, if you're not having us fit it then you have to buy the park..."
.... pause.....
"Your joking right? You expect me to pay £50 or whatever for a guy to come out an change a plastic door latch?"
"Yes sir.."
"so how much is the latch?"
.... tap tap tap from keyboard ....
"£35 inc vat and delivery"
"For a plastic latch? No thanks, I'll take a look at it, next time I won't be buying Hotpoint, some 5 year warranty that is..."
... click...
So anyone buying hotpoint, beware. The warranty is actually a load of old tosh, it's just a way of getting more money for their service engineers.
NOT HAPPY!!!

Have a look here might be less than £35

I don't think you can really blame Hotpoint, in there
eyes your not qualified to diagnose or fix the fault so why
should they just send you any part that you think
might be faulty
If something expensive goes like the motor then
its worth paying the labour and getting a free part,
if something minor and your good with a screw driver

If you read the terms and conditions of the warranty in th emanual not just the sticker you will see you have to pay the call out charge
"Free Five Year Parts Guarantee
All functional parts are guaranteed for five years. We only ask that these are fitted by our engineers. During the first year, our engineer's time and labour are free. The guarantee does not include items which are consumable such as filters and light bulbs or parts that are cosmetic"0 -
The Hotpoint 5 year parts guarantee is useless, as are Hotpoint engineers and customer service.
My 3 year old Hotpoint RLA54 Larder fridge started freezing things even on its minimum setting, an engineer came (at vast cost) and fitted a new thermostat which didn't make any difference. When he came back, he declared the appliance unrepairable.
Surely if there is a fault, then there must be a part that is at fault and can be replaced under the guarantee.
I'm also very surprised that a fridge, which is a very simple device, should have such a short life. I'm used to fridges that last 20-30 years wihtout any failures and only get replaced because one's needs change.
Hotpoint then sold me RLS150P at a discount to replace the old fridge.
Buying this was a big mistake as it the worst appliance I've ever owned. Its noisy and doesn't cool well, and Hotpoint won't/can't do anything about it.0 -
And you were so angry, you dug up an old thread!Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

My hotpoint washer/dryer has broken down after very light use. The display says F-01 which translates to motor and or PCB. The parts are free but the call out is £104.97. My gripe is i explicity informed them of the error code and the engineer turned up after a week of waiting with nothing except a screwdriver. "i'll have to order a motor and a circuit board Sir". I'll have to come me back next week with the parts. Oh no.... a further day off work to wait in all day for a 9am - 6pm appointment.
You would think Hotpoint, would carry the basic parts to be able to carry out the repair, relating to problem reported and the error code on the display.
Oh and when you ring up service they try to up-sell you to 12 months parts and labour warranty for and extra £54, (on top of the £104.97) and if you say no, they drop it by £10 till they get to £34.00 when I said no to that, they sounded devastated. If this machine breaks down again, i'm gonna put it on a trolley wheel it to a public place set light to it, and call the press to watch me do it. Why should iI have to pay to fix a lightly used machine 15 months old, which cost £450.00
BTW the Hotpoint washer dryer is a useless machine. It dries using steam. So, you wash your new delicate D&C top at 15 degrees and then the dryer boils it at 110 degrees to dry it. Ends up 3 sizes smaller and creased to hell. Just the same as if I had put it on a boil wash.0 -

The previous post was only 2 months ago, not long if it's an outstanding problem.
I bought a tumble dryer, but wasn't swayed by the guarantee, (bought from catalogue) but the sticker was on the front of the dryer when delivered so I made the call to activate it.
£80 call out charge apparantly. What's to stop Hotpoint upping this charge, making it totally unworthwhile to claim on the guarantee? Nothing I guess.
Seems they have found a way to make a decent sounding offer while bending the rules and ripping you off. There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.0 -
Okay , for what its worth , white goods are expected by the average person to last longer than a year. After the 12 months "guarentee" period is over the onus for the repare / replacement goes back to the retailer. They wont like you knowing this at all. However , the onus for the clarification of the repair is on the buiyer. IE you must prove at your expense that it is a manuafacturer or parts fault and not wear and tear.
I suggest you go on the consumer advise website and use the template letters .
http://www.consumerdirect.gov.uk/after_you_buy/
ensure that you give them a time frame to respond to you . Send the letter by recorded delivery , email back up also . Its amazing how many get lost.
Once you have proved it is a manufacturer fault , you will have to pay for this initially , you are entitled to a resonable replacement , of the same age and model but without the fault , or a repair at the retailers expense..
It does work but takes time , I have got a new sofa (off argos) and a new cooker x 2 ( off ikea) using this methodONE HOUSE , DS+ DD Missymoo Living a day at a time and getting through this mess you have created. One day life will have no choice but to be nice to me :rotfl:0
