advice re having lodgers and claiming benefits

    As the money you have coming in is less than your outgoings, i.e mortgage £1170 and rent coming in £800. You may not get much out of jobseekers but you would be entitled to Housing Benefit. As you are on a low income at the moment they will work out how much they will pay towards your mortgage(Interest only). They will offer you something and that should free up more of your rent money for you to live on.

    I forgot to add that you don't need to be claiming any benefits or tax credits in order to claim housing benefits. It goes purely off your income.

    Mortgage interest payments are a bit of a minefield. It can take up to 39 weeks depending on circumstances.
    One day I might be more organised...........:confused:

    As the Rent collection officer, maintaining the property and collecting rent from your tenant is a job and rent collected is your income. You could qualify for TC check it out with the CAB or an accountant. JSA is no good for you.
