Secret debt can anyone help?

Hi if I disappear it is coz my son is crying... again... anyway!
I have a loan for 15k 7% and a credit card 3k 0% and I am self employed. I have been through my soa with the cccs as work has all but dried up recently.
I am attempting new projects but things like these take a while to set up so it will be a year or so before I see any return, so at the moment I am really struggling.
My husband knows nothing about the debts and I really don't want him to as its MY responsibility and I don't want to let him down(I know I already have.) The cccs say I could offer token payments as I have £100 left every month and my repayments are £290 and £70, but I have been too frightened to go ahead with it as I am afraid people will be ringing up and sending bailiffs round and my husband will find out. Because of this I have been up every night worrying and working as much as poss to keep up the payments but I think I have 2 months left before I am bugg*red.
I know I know I should tell him but I really don't want to. I suppose my questions are
1. Will they phone up constantly to demand the money and will they tell him?
2. If I stick to the plan and pay the small amount will they still send bailiffs or try and take me to court?
3. Does anyone have any experience at getting out of a phone contract with orange?
Thanks in advance. If I seem to disappear I am still hear reading but I will have a small child in my arms and I am a crap typer at the best of times

Hi, I'm afraid my knowledge is fairly limited but I do know that you can write to your creditors and tell them that you only wish to communicate by letter, this would avoid the phone issue at least.
As far as I know if you stick to the plan and make some form of payment, which they agree to, they won't be sending bailiffs.
The best advice I can give is to talk to your husband - even when people stop hassling you by phone, I have a feeling you'll still be worried about him finding out. You're making the right moves to get it all sorted now so you have nothing to be ashamed of. He may surprise you, I've heard men do that sometimes!odi et amo0 -
Hi Sylv.... as Lizalu just said, write to the companies involved and inform them that they are only to contact u by letter.... But I would suggest telling ur husband, as it will ease the burden for you. U could tell him that u want to deal with it on ur own, but that u have to tell him for ur sanity.
Just another quick things I can think of.... u said u have a small child, are u claiming all the benefits u are entitled to? Check out entitledto.co.uk to make sure..... also do u have any spare things u could sell on eBay/Amazon for a bit of extra cash short term....
Keep in touch with CCCS, as they will be able to offer u good advice too...
Sorry its ajumble posts, but hope it helps a little

Are you self employed working from home?Could you take on additional work at home to see you through until your other projects start to bring in money?Would you have the time to do that?Have you thought about childminding?you could then still concentrate on your other projects at night and weekends.
I would tell hubby too.Secrets are not good and especially financial ones in a relationship. You must be feeling awful having to keep this from him.
My hubby recently helped me to get all my business start up debt moved onto 0% credit card deals as he has a better credit rating than I do and now he is great at keeping me motivated(nagging) to earn the money to pay it off."Reaching out to touch the stars dont forget the flowers at your feet".0 -
1. Will they phone up constantly to demand the money and will they tell him?
Put a request in writing that you would like your number removing from their database – Just because you owe them money does not mean you have to speak to them. Anything important they will send in writing anyway
2. If I stick to the plan and pay the small amount will they still send bailiffs or try and take me to court?
Creditors don’t have the power to send bailiffs the only person who can send a bailiff is the court and they would only do this if you defaulted on a County Court Judgment. A creditor may or may not apply for a CCJ (every creditor is different) and if they did you could make an offer of repayment – this would be the amount the CCCS have anyway so it would be an affordable amount
3. Does anyone have any experience at getting out of a phone contract with orange?
How long have you got left on your contract? I’m not aware of anyway you could get out of it, but if you are no longer using that phone it’s no longer a priority so you could add it to the list of creditors and offer a reduced amount towards the remaining balance. So you would still have to pay the amount outstanding on the contract but it’s going to be an affordable amount. Is it that your contract is far too much a month? What you would need to way up is could you afford to pay until the end of the contract then look at changing as in the long run you would be still paying for it even though you are not using it. Does completely depend on your circumstances.I am a Debt Counsellor that works for the CCCS and have specific permission from Martin, to post on these boards to try and help those in debt. Read more information on the CCCS and what it does in the Debt Problems: What to do and where to get help article.
CCCS is a registered charity, and there is no charge whatsoever for any of the services we provide to our clients. We take great pride in offering first class help and advice, but we only offer this where we have been able to fully explore and understand your circumstances with you. We want to help you understand these choices and their possible implications but not make them for you.

Thanks for the advise it is much appreciated. I actually know my husband would be very good about it, I just can't bear to see him so disappointed in me.
Sarah I will contact them to ask to remove my number from their database, I hadn't thought of that. I often have family staying with me and don't want them answering the phone either.
shelovestobuy, I am an actress so its really difficult to take onother jobs as I may have to cancel at the drop of a hat, and you end up letting people down. But I am currently training to do ther things so hopefully it will pick up.
Thanks again for not judging me. I've been wanting to post for ages, there are days when I have felt like ending it all as I hate what I have got us into. Thanks for the support.0 -

Sylviemylove, you are not alone at all. There are quite a few of us who were in the same situation you find yourself in now, The only way to keep yourself from going insane is to come clean with your husband.
I did and it was the best thing I could have done. It made him realise that I couldn't magic money out of thin air for the odd day out when the fancy took him. Now we are looking at a debt free date of June 2009.
It's not always easy in this wonderful show we call life, but we are all here for you. Take care.
Love and great big hugs xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx:ADFW Nerd 410:T
