    Thanks magyar, he didnt mention any discount. I want a loft ladder fitted too but he said he will have to have a look which is fair enough, as he will need to lower the trap door too.

    There is a big difference in price for tradesmen from different areas - cost of living maybe? If you can get someone to travel to you for a cheaper rate than you can get locally then go for it but if the person you want to use then says "its 100 miles to you so I'll have to put extra on to cover my fuel / traveling time" is it worth it? It could still work out cheaper to get someone local especially if they've been recommended and you can see their work beforehand. How much would it cost you to correct something that has been done poorly or incorrectly because you've gone for the cheapest quote and not known anything about the person doing the work?

    I have a local joiner coming this Wednesday and he is charging me £110 for 4 doors including hinges/handles that I bought separately.
